BREAKING NEWS: Suspect in Las Vegas Strip gun battle ID'd - 8 News NOW (http://www.8newsnow.com/story/27634519/man-captures-aftermath-of-strip-shooting-on-video)
LAS VEGAS -- Gunfire rang out on the Las Vegas Strip in the early morning hours Monday leaving one man dead and another with serious injuries.
Late Monday afternoon, the Clark County coroner identified the dead man as 35-year-old Christopher Gene Boudinot of Las Vegas.
The exchange of gunfire happened just before 2 a.m. between a security guard and a passenger who had just been kicked off of the bus. Tourists and people who work along the Strip near the Paris Hotel say the violence unfold.
The amateur video shows two men on the ground. One is dead, the other is fighting for his life. Jebadia Nutting shot the footage after leaving work at a night club when police cars raced past him.
"You can see the Paris balloon and I had been in the Cromwell," he said.
Investigators say the Allied Barton security guard was on duty for the Regional Transportation Commission when he asked a passenger to get off the bus for causing a disturbance.
Investigators say the passenger then shot the security guard several times and the armed guard fired back killing the man.
"The security guard should get a parade for protecting people on the bus, that's amazing," Nutting said.
He believes the violence could have spread, if not for the guard's actions.
"He was protecting people that work in restaurants and people who ride the bus, I ride the bus everyday," he said.
The guard, who has not been identified, was transported to University Medical Center's trauma unit. Metro Police would not discuss specifics of the shooting but did say the guard is expected to survive.
The Regional Transportation Commission issued the following statement:
"We are saddened to hear about the incident that occurred at the bus stop near south Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road. Our prayers and deepest condolences are with the families of those involved."
The RTC asked for and received funding for more security guards a few months ago after a spike in attacks on bus drivers.
