No Tithe, No Burial: Pastor Refuses to Bury 93-Year-Old Parishioner

They say “money is the root of all evil.” Keep that in mind as you read this story about a pastor who refused to bury one of his church members…and why.
Olivia Blair, shown in the photo above, lived to be the ripe old age of 93 before she passed away after years of sickness and months of being comatose.
She had joined Fourth Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 43, and when she passed away, her family contacted the church to let them know and requested they perform her burial services.
You can imagine their shock and disappointment when pastor Walter F. Houston said ‘Absolutely not!’
The reason: She had not paid her tithes over the past two years.
“For the last two years, my mother has been in either a nursing home or she’s been in a hospital. And the last few months, she was in a coma!” explained Barbara Day, the decedent’s daughter.
Day went on to say that the church only cared about “money,” and argued that even retail stores were more respectful of their customers. She has a hard time understanding the commercialization that has now found its way into religion, and asks,
“What does this have to do with God? Why can’t I give my mother her last wish to be funeralized in a church that she loved so much?”
Barbara Day said the situation “was like the last insult in the world,” and also indicated that the refusal left her scrambling around town to make alternate funeral arrangements.

He obviously didn't peep Tuesday's edition of Our Daily Bread.
An online survey conducted by a New York law firm reveals that 52 percent of Wall Street traders, brokers, investment bankers, and other financial service professionals have either engaged in illegal activity or believe they may need to do so in order to be successful. The survey concludes that these financial leaders “have lost their moral compass” and “accept corporate wrongdoing as a necessary evil.”
In mentoring young Timothy, the apostle Paul warned that the love of money and the desire to get rich had caused some to lose their way. They had yielded to temptations and embraced many “foolish and harmful” desires (1 Tim. 6:9). Paul saw “the love of money” (not money itself) as a source of “all kinds of evil” (v.10), especially the evil of trusting in money rather than depending on Christ.
As we learn to see that Christ is the source of all we have, we will find contentment in Him rather than in material possessions. When we seek godliness rather than riches, we will gain a desire to be faithful with what we have been given.

Amen Brother.
"love of money" is the problem. trust in God, He'll take care of the rest (except you still have to take out the trash and load the dishwasher).

That is just plain disgusting that the pastor because of money will not allow a proper funeral at the church this women attended and loved for many years. He is not a man of God. Instead he is a man of the almighty dollar. May God bless this women.

While I somewhat agree with this in basic principle, the way I interpret this comment makes it seem as if there are only 2 options. You either seek godliness or you seek riches. I do not at all believe that those are the only 2 choices.
As for the OP, that's just... sad. I'm sure there is a better word, but I can't come up with it at the moment.
King James Bible Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

That's embarrassing for Christians. Good grief. What a jerk.

The point being it all belongs to God anyhow. God owns, we manage.
We are only temporary stewards of our earthly possessions and someday will have to give an account to the Almighty of our respective management/mismanagement.

Very true but never limited to just "traders" of wall street. :cert:

If OD was charging for all of the free prayers he gives us... he would be rich.
But the more I think about it, he is rich in his own way.. :seasix:
