I was starting to check out a couple forums I'm on when the lights blinked. My computer, a Dell OptiPlex 760 blinked and then the monitor got all kinds of funny lines. It doesn't work enough to actually use.

I took my computer from downstairs and hooked it up. That rules out a damaged monitor.

What should I check out?

Thanks
Jeff

Did you swap cables for the monitor also?

No, I unhooked all the cables from the back of the "recently deceased" computer and hooked them up to the basement computer and it works fine.

The Dell does have a built in video card :sadangel:

Embedded video card? If not, remove to another slot and give it a try.

see if you can disable the embedded card via jumpers and add a separate video card.

Video card is in the MB. I think I have another video card, I'll check tomorrow.

I did a search of the 760 motherboard, and depending on the design of the box some 760s do not have slots in the rear to accommodate a video connection. They have 2 open pci slots but no corresponding slot at the rear of the box. But some are standard looking boxes too. So, we need pics or a more complete model # maybe, like GX760 etc. Do a google image search for the 760 motherboard and see if you can spot your model there, then post the image, might help. Always possible the driver just needs to be reloaded, power lapses do crazy shit to a system.

Mine does seem to have a slot for a video card. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Thanks for the help :cert:

I installed an old video card and am back in business :hurray: This had a built in video card that gave up the ghost :sadangel:

This video card was probably the latest and greatest 10 years ago so I'll be on the look out for a better PCI Express video card.
