Last night started simple enough, I was just going over to my buddy Tata's house to get out of the house for a little while.

Two of my kids wanted to go.. (my 2 and 4 year old) really they wanted to go to the store and buy some candy so off we went.

Tata was not home but his Mom said he was down the street at the Sari Sari Store, so we walked down there and he was not there.. but!

A few of my other buddys were there drinking beer.

Let the kids pick out some candy and they were happy enough for awhile, and since I don't drink beer, I asked Dino, Franky, and Bebong if they wanted to drink some Rhum.

And of course they did.. :D

Wasn't long my little one Steve wanted to go home so I invited everyone to go back to our place to have one bottle.

Well..

As you know, just one always turns into "one more" and then later another that we call "last one" then sometimes after is called the "last last one"

We lost two Tanduay soldiers along the way so now it was just me and Dino Standing and for some reason we thought we needed more Rhum and help finishing the next bottle.

(you should never leave one not empty is the rule)

As we are walking through the village, not sure of the time, but late.. and every dang dog in the village along the way just has to bark, and meanwhile we are going door to door like trick or treaters trying to wake up friends to join us. :seasix:

Keep in mind not everyone here has doors or windows so Dodong's wife was kinda startled when she saw my face inside the window asking for him..

But she just laughed and told me I was drunk.. and so was Dodong... :Jeff '79:

Mostly their wife's just said they were asleep so on to the next house, then the next, and then the next, and meanwhile getting more and more dogs to bark. :datawiz:

By the time we got to Pinoy's house he already knew we were coming from all of the racket and had his flash light on ready to do some drinking business..

Now I will be honest... we didn't knock on every door in the village, and we only found one recruit.. but I can assure you that between us and the dogs no one possibly slept through this without being awakened

Now that I have been here over 11 years now, I have become accustomed to things being this way.

Prolly best I just stay here... and never go back to the USA as I'm not sure if I can be reintegrated back into society.. :Jeff '79:

Well...if you did I'm sure you'd be the hit of the neighborhood that you graced with your :datawiz: presence!

Besides....rhum is expensive, and tolerant wives rare on this continent. :yesnod:

The last time I came through there.. I checked the box that says resident on my papers coming through immigration, and got bitched out..

I was sternly informed that while I am still a US citizen, I am not.. and can no longer claim to be a resident.. (as if it even makes a friggin difference)

I hope he felt better after that brief lecture as I was kinda happy it kept his attention away from going through my bags and finding my stash of untaxed Rhum and cigarettes.. :datawiz:

:D

As far as taxes go.. America is one of the only two places in the world that has a government that thinks they have a right to tax their subjects that no longer live in their country.

But they do not tax anyone for their first $100,000 of income I think.

I don't make enough money to even have to worry about it.

I realized both the last time I was there..

Luckily I brought three bottles of my own Rhum to share with friends when I came, but ran out and had to buy another.

The cheapest Rum I could find was Ronrico I think it was called, a Jamaican Rum and that was about $18 a bottle.

Sure made me miss my dollar a bottle Rhum in a qiuckness.. :yesnod:

I ended up drinking most of that fancy cheap Rum over a few different times with Dan Dlabay that also post here, and he shared the bottle of Tanduay that I had given him with me at his new years party a few years back.

But he also has an Asian wife so no problems.. she was our designated driver :Jeff '79:
