We have meat shoots around here. Some are single shots with a .22 LR ( open sights only ) or 12 gauge shotgun at a board. The gun club which hosts the meat shoots supplies the ammo.

Nothing like that here. But after 41years in the field I shot my first Whitetail deer this morning. About 125 pounds, 4 point buck. It is about time!

How much weight do you get for that price?

A lot of times someone will come by the house selling a pig for about 150 to 160 peso per kilo, then the next day they will butcher it and deliver it to our house.

We have to pay about 170 to 180 usually over at the market.

150 per kilo would be about $1.57 per pound but includes the bones

That will help stock the freezer for the winter. :seasix:

Our Credti Union gives out several frozen turkeys at their annual members meeting - just before the Holidays and the local mens club usually has turkey shoot, but no raffles.

you pay admission. and buy raffle tickets. They call your number, you get meat.
I happen to win 2lbs of boneless pork chops.

last one I went to I spent twice that much and walked out with a package of Hillshire Farms smoked sausage

Is this a fund raiser for something?

$23 for two pounds sounds kinda high, what does Kroger's charge?

I agree. I buy whole loin at 1.59/lb and cut my own chops.

That's cheaper than we are getting it here.. :yesnod:

The only way I can beat that price is raise one from a piglet, and still do not save as much as you would think due to the cost of feed.

2 lbs boneless pork chops run about $10 here. Unless you had a decent chance of winning something really worthwhile, I'd pass on the next one. I try in general to avoid freezing meat before cooking unless it's something like skirt steak or chuck roast. Anything you want to be tender and juicy is better buying fresh IMO.
