I guess I'm only used to C2s. The gas gauges are notoriously accurate.

Yup. To no avail. No matter what it is, my wife drives it until she's lucky to coast into the station.

I got in our TrailBlazer the other day and the mofo was sitting below E.

Range: 0

It's a 13 year old Chevrolet with a gazillion miles on it. The radio works about half the time, the power seats and mirrors randomly move, it clunks, creaks, and squeaks

... and she still trusts the gas gauge to the last drop.

:Jeff '79: Sounds about right.

I just hope you didn't suck up all the crap on the bottom of the tank. My 62 runs out at 1/4 tank....BTDT once!

Every car I ever had that was more than 5 years old, I'd get nervous by 1/4 tank. Plus I inherited a habit from my dad, on long trips as soon as the gauge was on 1/2 he'd start looking for a station.

Mine always says empty...for 10 years I would guess.

I fill up every 425 miles.

Where is the gas tank on a C4?

I don't trust the gage on my car AT ALL. On a C3 the filler is on the deck, so you can actually make a crude fuel gage with a dowel. Fill up the tank, and dip the dowel in, the line will be your 'Full' mark. Divide in half, will be roughly half tank...and so on.

It's the same concept as this:

Because it's one problem after another

:rofl: I keep a stick on the wall, all marked off just for that reason, and of course another 5 gallon steel tank add on under the main tank.....it's my anti slosh tank, so the FI don't stumble on a empty tank cornering maneuver.....:seasix:

Driving little old ladies across the street and stopping to pick up litter? That the kind of good it's doing?

Verify the ground on the tank is good. My former '66 Chevelle did that and it was a bad gas tank ground. Cleaned the spot and it worked correctly again.

The gauges were sunburnt in my 85...so I kept a wooden dowel in the hatch that I used ot gauge my fuel level. But after a couple years I knew...about what I had in the tank just by how much I drove.

Once day..I got careless..drove too long without putting fuel in. Pulled up next to a car filled with womenz...decided to give it the business....punched it to the floor...engine went...waa...wahhhhhpopopopopopopop....I lifted..it recovered..drove another mile or so. stopped at a light..running fine...take off...screeeeechhh....popopopopopopopopop....dead.

coasted into a friends driveway....took out my stick, slid it in...plink...oops.

Got a couple gallons in a can, and off I went.

fwiw, it only takes about 10 minutes to put a FP/Sender in a C4...on the side of the road, with limited hand tools.
