We see things there that you just don't see anywhere else. Like, the timber industry is very big here, lots of log and pulp wood trucks on the road. A common road sign says "Beware of Long Logs". :leaving:

On hills (downward hill) there are signs that say "No Jake Braking". (Trucks fitted with a "jack brake" or engine assist braking system have a modified engine valve operation that uses the engine's compression to slow the vehicle. The only objectionable thing about it is that they are loud.)

And overhead signs near a bridge that say "If You Hit This Sign You Will Hit That Bridge".

Out in the middle of nowhere: "Correctional Facility Area. Do Not Pick Up Hitchhikers". (Thanks for the tip, buddy!)

On I-55: "Right Lane Closed To Ease Congestion".

In Louisiana: "Do Not Track Mud Onto The Road".

And only in Mississippi on a three-lane road: "Center Lane Ends". (WTF?!?)

In Oklahoma, near McCallister, is signs that say "Warning: Hitchhikers may be escaped convicts." McCallister is famous for their prison rodeo BTW.

Also in OK, signs that say "Do not drive into smoke!" because apparently there is smoke there sometimes. I've driven I-44 between Joplin and Tulsa about 400 times and have never seen that smoke, but by God I'm not going to drive into it!

We have a sign on west 7th about not using Jake brakes, but they use them all the time there, I think just to piss off the golfers and because of that stupid sign.

That's all I got for now.

Jake brake is short for Jacobs, the company that developed that engine braking system.
(I've never heard of a jack brake before).

If you're trucking and have a jake brake, you never use it in populated areas due to the noise it makes. Picture the sound of a no exhaust race motor gearing down....very similar. Signs are posted in small towns usually. Especially used on steep inclines.

Ok, so why is there a "No Jake Brake" sign down the street from me that can only be seen going up the only nearby steep hill, and none readable when descending?
