I wear them.
Or.....at least I'm supposed to.
My ears severely ring every waking moment, 2/3 hearing is gone.
Good luck.

It sucks, but look on the bright side. You can turn it off and not hear your family :seasix:

there are two age related things I put-off for the loooooongest time; mostly due to being in denial about my situation.

Bifocals? Heck, I almost always have a magnifier along with me... Yvonne !

Hearing aid? Heck, I always have a hearing aid along with me... Yvonne !!

First I caved-in and got bifocals; I was already wearing glasses anyways. Digital, no line; and they are great.

Lastly I finally broke down and got hearing aids; but I only wear one. Yeah, I know... all the "experts" claim you can't wear just one... but I do and it works great. The model I bought has a pushbutton with 4 "modes"... programmed to your liking. And, it even has a remote control and I can control it via that.

Go to an audiologist and get tested and a response plot of your hearing (... kinda like your glasses prescription with all the pertinent info written down). Then find an online hearing-aid place... order from there for $ubstancial $avings.

Hearing loss is more associated with a history of loud noises like gun fire, rock concerts, racing engines. So......if you had fun in your life, you probably have hearing loss.

That's how this all started. Wife harping on me, friends complaining about talking and me not answering. Apparently it's more the left than the right. I'll get fitted as soon as the insurance is straight with the audiologist. 80/20 split. Of course I could go to the VA and have them give me one, free, but that could take YEARS.

friends complaining about talking and me not answering.

for me; I couldn't blame that specific - entirely on hearing loss :leaving:

I also have tinnitus like a mofo. Do they really help with that?

My Doc actually has me using nasal spray to see if that helps. I will say if you ever have chemo-be prepared-the ringing will blast your brains out.

tinnitus

new research on that.

imagine a live microphone that gets too near a speaker... you get feedback squeal.

Think of the small hairs (stereocilia) in your ears cochlea... that float in fluid and actually detect sound vibration in the fluid and port this to nerve endings.

During an ultra loud noise - the vibration of the fluid can be so violent tht the hairs don't stay in perfect physical alignment; instead... one or two fold over and make contact with the hair next to it.

Guess what, you get... feedback. If the hair doesn't straighten back out on its own... the ringing (feedback loop) never ends.

There has been some experiments where an attempt was mode to straighten these bent-over stereocilia... so the don't make contact with another one. Way too soon for any published results to surface.

My dad said the same thing while he was on chemo. He attributed it to the buzz from the poison and the pain killers though.

I've got them but don't wear them; never been able to have audiologist get them right.. I have to turn the TV up and wife complains, but except for missing a word or two on the golf course, I hear everything OK

:iagree:

I had to get glasses back in '08. I had a little help from the wife too. She got tired of me moving the newspaper closer and closer to read. :D

As for the hearing, I may have gotten lucky or something. All the "activities" haven't produced a noticeable loss.....yet. :D:D
