I had so many interests as a kid I can't list them all. And Matchbox collecting was one of them :seasix:

You watched the likes of Jim Clark, Phil Hill, and Juan Manuel Fangio battle it out?

Some of those cheap little cars, which we so gleefully and thoroughly abused are worth some SERIOUS $$$ today.

I loved them! My local Five and Dime had a big carousel. You would turn it to view the displayed cars. Each had an individual two digit number. You would tell the clerk which number for them to retrieve the blue/yellow boxed vehicle for you. I got back into collecting them in the '90s. Boxed, mint examples. Most in the $30 range, and others into the hundreds. I sold them all but a few on ebay. I would still like to have a store display. Those things are crazy on ebay.
