Anyone else like this bourbon? Most all of you know that Jim Beam is my go to stuff, but man the WR is good.:shots:

Pretty good stuff. Went to the distillery a few times when I lived down that way.
In that price range, I personally prefer the Basil Hayden's from JB.

Just picked up 4 Roses the other day. It was on sale.
Pretty good and reasonably priced. More of a mixer though.

I like Woodford Reserve. I drink Maker's 46 more often though. I tried the Woodford Reserve Double Oak a while back and wasn't impressed. The subtle difference in flavor, which was barely noticeable, isn't worth the extra $$ spent.

I've only had the Distillers Select. I may have to try the Maker's though.:seasix:
46 and Woodford are two of my favorites. However, a friend-girl had me over the other night and was fixing me drinks from her stash...

I will say - these were some very nice bourbons

I remember in '92 or so, Sis and I found an unopened bottle of 4 roses in the cabinet above the fridge, when shutting down Mom/Dad's house....it had been there for at least 15 years, maybe closer to 20......we tried it, something must have happened in that all the booze was rotten as hell....we tossed it....
every time I see a 4 roses bottle since then, I picture that bottle when we found it, and so shocked that it was bad.....

Kentucky is definitely known for its fine bourbons.

I like Woodford, I have been stuck on W.L. Wellers for the last 10 years though. Very smooth.

I just picked up a bottle of the Double Oak for cheaper than a bottle of normal Woodford.
Woodford Reserve is my go to Bourbon.

This was crazy good though:

Last bottle was barrel aged 12 yrs. 2 mths., and was OESV (Delicate fruity, Fresh, Creamy)
Of course, I'm also partial to the stuff in my avatar. :D
Woodford Reserve is a very tasty beverage. Once I open a bottle, it doesn't last long.

Single barrel is the way to go with Four Roses, unless you're mixing. My personal favorite is Bullit bourbon..not the rye shit though!
I have had quite a few bourbons...makers, makers 46, woodford, larceny, and a few more I don't recall the names of. I actually have a barrel at makers with my name on it. Should be mature around early April(received an email to that effect). Going to make the trip up there to retrieve a few bottles. Not the biggest makers fan, but I enjoy it from time to time when I run out of Bulllit.

I have a bottle of Knob Creek in my cupboard. It's been there for several years. That stuff is not drinkable. :ack:

I just picked up a bottle of the Double Oak for cheaper than a bottle of normal Woodford.Woodford is probably trying to dump the stuff because it doesn't sell well.

I think the Double Oaked is fantastic stuff and much different from the basic WR.

Not too shabby, but the bottle of Booker's I'm working on is damn near 127 proof, and the last bottle was 126 proof. :D It also tastes better than the Knob Creek, IMHO.

I like bourbon to a fault and am partial to the Kentucky stuff.
Anyone tried the new cask Makers?
http://uncrate.com/p/2014/10/makers-mark-caskstrength.jpg
What was typically reserved for a taste here and there on a distillery tour is now available in bottles for the first time. Maker's Mark Cask Strength is Maker's Mark, but uncut, unfiltered, and straight from the barrel. It weighs in at a proof between 108-114, quite an uptick from the 90 proof standard bottling. It's Maker's Mark cranked up to eleven, with loads of flavor and character.
:waiting:

I'm not really knowledgeable about bourbons but recently have tried several including Woodford Reserve (premium version - don't recall which), Maker 46, and the Knob Creek 120 on the advise of one of my customers. Normally I like Scotch or bourbon neat and enjoyed both the Woodford and Makers that way. The Knob Creek took some getting used to neat. Needed to let the glass 'rest' for a few minutes before sipping. I tried over ice which I normally don't like at all, and thought it was quite good. Finished the bottle using ice... no more neat on the 120.
And indeed, it will get you going in a hurry! I preferred it over the Woodford and Makers.
Can't speak for the regular Knob Creek, but sure like the 120.

Woodford is one of my favorites. I first tried it on an airline flight. It was the only bourbon they had and I had never heard of it, so I was thinking of having something else. The flight attendant told me if I didn't like it she would refund my money. She said no one had ever asked for their money back.
Woodford is also one of my favorites. I do like it over the rocks which some people find it horrific I would do such a thing.
I respond by farting in their face. :gozar:

A guy in my subdivision works for Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. in Bardstown, Ky. and makes the barrels for their bourbon. Needless to say he gives some bomb Christmas presents.

i don't see anything wrong with a cube or two. I use filtered water to make the cubes. I always taste new bourbons neat first, then decide if it needs a little ice.

A used barrel would be an awesome gift. Even better if it was used and not yet emptied.
Got a barrel up there too. Ambassador, eh? :)
Oh yes...used to be huge on makers until I branched out and started sampling other offerings!

Four Roses from the 80s or so was some awful stuff, blended low quality, cheap, etc. I think they were owned by Seagrams at the time. They reopened a few years ago as a premium brand. My grandmother drank that old crappy FR!
