I've honestly never had to buy them before (although I've replaced them)
I'm needing front pads for my 05 Town Car.
Locally, I prefer NAPA.

are thier NAPA-branded stuff good to use?
I doubt I have a need for Ceramic.

I also like NAPA and buy their house brand stuff. As for ceramic - I buy them for my vehicles to try and cut down a little on the dust. Not sure it really matters since it seems the brake dust and wheels always seem to suck when it comes to cleaning the vehicle.

Ceramics need to warm up before they're really any better than regular ones. Not something you want for daily driver, and I think they wear your rotors out faster than normal pads. :yesnod:

talk to me about Brake pads

k.

Brake pads are hard little shiny things. They stop your car. Sometimes they get all squeaky and squeally and need to be replaced but some people don't even then.

I saw something on the ground one time I thought was a brake pad. To me it looked like a brake pad. But I had never seen one so I really didn't know what a brake pad was supposed to look like. Thinking back I'm not even certain it was a brake pad at all.

If I had a brake pad in my hand I would kind of toss it up and down a little to get a feel for the weight of it. Then I would probably look for somewhere to throw it and then throw it there. Like some woods or a vacant property or something like that. Or maybe a dumpster.

When I need brake pads, I go to rock auto and find the best name brand/value/material...and buy it.

On my trucks, I tend to use Raybestos pads, in a severe duty specification, and for shoes, I like anything riveted, not bonded, I tend to go with Bendix.

I was thinking they would be, because the car's heavy.

My friend's wife drives a soccer Mom van, and it called for ceramic pads. He decided to be cheap and get semi-metallic pads. They were worn to nothing within a few months.

Raybestos Professional Grade. Great life and not a lot of dust. Got a set off ebay a couple weeks ago for my C4, $22.50 delivered. Normally go for around $40 - $50.

Raybestos or Akebono

There is no justification to buy anything else for a dd

You guys and your new fangled cars! When I was a kid we'd make our brake shoes out of old worn out shoe soles, grumble,grumble,grumble.....:toetap:

My newest car is a 97. :D

My typical part-store conversation goes like this:

I need brake pads for a ____

"We have really crappy chinese pads for $20, mostly crappy pads for $25, or
just plain old crappy chinese pads with a lifetime warranty for $30"

What's the most expensive pad you have listed?

"There's a Raybestos pad for $72.99, but I'd have to order them"

I'll take those

*confused look*

How long will it take to get them?

*confused look* they're in the warehouse, so tomorrow

Sounds good.

*confused look*

More often than not, I buy OEM pads (or Delco parts that cross reference to the OEM pad). Amazon FTW.

Brake pads, even considering the job they do, don't have any performance regulations. Think of DOT standards for tires. Nothing of the sort for brake pads.

For the shortest stopping distance, demand Maxi brake pads.

The stop the flow immediately...flow of traffic.

I know this...Maxi pads and brake pads are NOT interchangeable. My wife is still not talking to me.

I hit the garage door and she well...she has scars.
