Caught on camera: Clerk uses bug spray on would-be robber (http://www.khou.com/story/news/local/texas/2014/07/23/12146410/)

WACO, Texas -- A store clerk got the upper hand on a guy trying to rob her by dousing him with a spray used to kill wasps and hornets.

When the would-be robber approached the clerk, she grabbed a can of bug spray and sprayed him.

The man took off running, but experts said you should think twice about using bug spray against people because it's illegal to use it for anything other than what it's meant for.

However, police said in sudden, life threatening situations, you're allowed to grab what you can to protect yourself, like the clerk did.

No charges were filed against the clerk.

The sad thing about all this is there is a discussion of it being illegal to use the can of wasp spray as a weapon. Um, the M-F is ROBBING you. I say, "spray away!"

All is fair in love and war and fighting off a criminal!

Years back a young punk tried to force his way into my 75 year old aunt’s house. I had given her a can of those 15' spray distance' hornet nest killers to keep by the door. She got him square in the eyes nose at about 2'. Good thing the safely chain keep him from getting in.

Cops were called and they found him few houses down with his head under an outside water tap trying to douche the stuff out of his eyes.

I should note, the OP story is correct. When it comes to insecticides, "the label is the law." It is expressly illegal to use any insecticide in an off label application (FIFRA). I would argue that the robbers were indeed insects, though.
