View Full Version : Well My Samsung Plasma STB

I bought it on 5/2/10 and it won't turn on. The red light blinks in the bottom left corner but no go...
The power went out for a minute yesterday and after it went back on, the TV wouldn't turn on again. Hmmm. I do have a surge protector on it too.
After Googling and U-Tubing everything I could, it would appear that the main power board is shot. I did some continuity tests and from what the U-Tube vids say, it is fried.
I ordered a new board for $54.00... I'm praying that it's the culprit. It's a piece of cake to change out, so it'll be nice if it works. I like the TV but 4 years and 5 months is all you get??? That's kinda bogus...
Model # PN42C450B1DXZA
The LCD's have a class action lawsuit on them, so if it happens to a Samsung LCD, no matter how old, they'll fix it one time for free. The capacitors were bad.
Oh well.... The bedroom TV is in my office for football.... Oh the pain...:Jeff '79:
Only reason I own a Sammy plasma is because Panasonic quit making plasma.
Mine is older than that. I think I got it in '07 or '08.

Because $3500 is worth it...why?
Black levels man. They are so black. On VHS.

A nice TV has its place depending on the room but I'm on my 2nd projector now and really enjoy the flexibility of placement and the fact that it is the size of a briefcase and shoots a very nice 165" image that is exceptionally sharp with a very respectable color gamut.
Projector cost: $3000 delivered
Screen cost: $40 (gallon of Ben Moore flat white on wall)
I do have a 73" DLP Mitsu for sale. $900 for tv and stand which have less than 1.5 yrs use in one home. :cert:

This is what happens when Chas the douche gets himself banned from CFOT for a few weeks, he slimes his way over here, with his normal douchebaggery in tow.

I got to see Scott's set up and it's damn nice. The picture quality is great and I couldn't believe it's just a painted wall. :yesnod:

Versus a $54 board or a nearly as good direct-lit LED LCD for less than half the cost. :slap:
Until they're cheaper (and last longer) I can't see OLED breaking into the market except at the very high end. I do hate that plasmas aren't being made any more, I love mine.
You can still get them. Probably best bang for the buck in the market and about 1/2 as thick as they once were.

Samsung 64 Class Plasma HDTV - Full HD 1080P, 1920x1080 Resolution, 600Hz Subfield Motion, 2x HDMI, 16:9 - PN64H5000A at TigerDirect.com (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8920138&CatId=3654)
My Samsung has a similar problem, I've never tried to fix it.

It was just ridiculously easy to do. A shit ton of screws to get the back off, 7 screws and 3 plugs to take the board out, and just reverse the process to reinstall.... Cake:yesnod:
Here's the part: SAMSUNG TV Model PN42C430A1DXZA Power Supply Board Part Number BN44-00329A (http://www.tvtechparts.com/SAMSUNG-TV-Model-PN42C430A1DXZA-Power-Supply-Board-p/bn44-00329a.htm)

I remember reading a very scientific test that compared paint to actual screens and screen paint and the winning paint was actually Sherwin Williams to the point that it actually BEAT an actual screen paint.

You should invite Jeff over for dinner. Tell him to bring TV parts in lieu of a bottle of wine.
