View Full Version : Ladybugs
Where TF are they coming from?
Every time I look up, there are more of them on the ceiling in my office. WTF?
Is anyone else experiencing this phenomenon this year?

I can't remember the last time I saw a ladybug. Send them down here. :yesnod:
PM your address. I think I still have the box that Douglas used to ship the bowl to me...
Every few years we've been swarmed by them here in Salem Alan. With the odd warm/cold/warm weather cycle it's making them a lot more noticeable.

I used to buy them for my rose bushes every year - back when I had rose bushes. We liked to watch them feast on the aphids. They're very voracious.

Not this year. But in prior years those things would be everywhere. With high ceilings here they were a real pain to get to.
I also found out that they don't die when you vacuum them up. They will crawl back out of that sucker. :willy:

They aren't ladybugs. Ladybugs don't swarm. They are Asian Lady Beetles, a larger species of beetle than the ladybug. Imagine if ladybugs were house cats, these would be the mountain lion. You can thank the .gov for bringing them to the US and releasing them in the early 1990's.
It is time for me to spray for them and boxelder bugs
This works great

Exactly.... and the .gov will tell you that by bringing them to the US to combat aphids and other destructive insects in the forests of the Northeast, they've reduced the need to use pesticides in those areas.
Just don't look at consumer-level pesticide sales in the regions where the little so-and-sos have moved into.

No, do they eat them?
Yes. And the larva. The first time I saw it there was this black cloud in the middle of my backyard. As I looked i realized the Dragonflies were heading hte mosquitoes.
I saw it once again just a few years back.

Dunno. Throw a handful down your skivvies and see what happens.
:D
We used to get flocks/herds of ladybugs in MD this time of year. On the west facades. Catching the warm sun and looking for a warm place to hibernate. Harmless critters.
