Obviously they don't think much of the travelers if they call them assengers... :island14:

My daughter will fly from Johannesburg to Toronto on November 22nd, arriving home from a 2 year stint in The Peace Corp.
Thank GOD!! .....It won't be soon enough for me.
Airplane protocol is; a person with a back pack sprayer, prior to departure, sprays the entire cabin, PEOPLE INCLUDED....:wow:
I wonder what's in that spray.
Toronto is screening too....

:Jeff '79: assenger!

Jeff, glad to hear your daughter is coming home! I can imagine the worry and stress you had from her being in that region on the world!

Jeff is she anywhere near any of the areas that are high risk?

I sure hope not...

Why is the State department still issuing VISA's to people in the area?

Also we have a travel "Alert" since August for the area.

Serious.. why don't they stop all travel from there until they get it under control?

Just seems stupid to me!

Eryn is in the polar opposite from the danger zone. She's in SW Africa and the hot zone is NW Africa. Distance wise, it would be like a trip from Miami to Anchorage, so it's far but the travel thing is what we worry about.
I can't believe that the US hasn't pulled them all out of Africa and reassigned them to another place.

Good to hear she is far away from the hotspots, but still shes too close to it.

And like you said the flight home might also have assangers from that part of the country that is high risk.

Are you new?

It's Political Correctness. And a president who has no use for American exceptionalism.

And yes it is stupid. Dangerous. And doesn't put the safety and welfare of the American people first.

I understand that the areas are far apart and I still want to know why the State department is still issuing VISA's to THAT region.

I also don't understand why we sent he USMC to the region. Since when did the USMC become the Nurse Corp of the USA?

he is doing it deliberately, everything RONG to the detriment of this Nation...

every conceivable possible thing....BUT then again, they send a guy out to interview kids on Harvard campus, and get the stupidist shit answers to simple questions, Harvard....leading the way down the shit tube.....

I think the theory involved in is, "we must fight it over there so we don't have to fight it here." That theory has to be good for something....why not ebola?

So, what should be the US response to ebola, both domestically and (if you think it is warranted) on foreign soil?

I hate to see our guys put at risk over there, but from what I have seen so far the people handling this are not doing a very good job..

If the US sits back and does nothing, you can bet they will be fighting it in your own back yard.

Some one needs to step up to the plate and take over on this, to make sure that it gets taken care of the right way.. with a minimal loss of lives as possible.

Who else could or would? :island14:

POTUS stopped flights to Israel. No problem. Stop African flights. Problem.
Telling.

I could agree with that. Now, Q: how do you stop the same folks who would have taken those direct flights from flying to an intermediary country, then flying on to the US? I mean, besides just asking every single traveler if they have been to the hot zone?

Ex.: Let's say Jeff's daughter was in the hot zone, rather than elsewhere in Africa (thankfully). She wants to come home. There is a no fly zone out of those countries to the US. You don't think she wouldn't just fly somewhere else, then board a US bound flight?

Jeff, not picking or disparaging your daughter in the slightest, just using a hypothetical many of us could resonate with. Now, things would be easier with foreign nationals coming to the US, they would be easier to identify, but the same problem presents itself.

Simple.
You been to the hot zone. You don't enter the US until cleared.

It should be interesting to see what her journey home will entail.
Hell! I'm quarantining her in the barn for three weeks, just to be sure.
I don't care how cold it gets out there...

How are you going to enforce that? People can lie if you just ask them. Now you could do extra research on people with passports from the effected countries when they try to enter, but that does nothing to address people from other countries who may have traveled to those countries, and now wish to enter the US....including US citizens.

Papers. Must have papers to enter. Or you're a WOP. :D

That's a good first step. A passport is supposed to be stamped upon entering or exiting a country. So, if there is a recent stamp from an affected country, that's a good indicator.

Having said that, passport stamps are not foolproof. Ask any American who has illegally traveled to Cuba, via Mexico. Cuban customs is known to be obliging by NOT stamping passports of Americans, so as not to cause them difficulty with the US govt. I'm sure the customs officials in the effected countries would be willing to do the same, for a small gift (read: bribe).

The passport stamps will let the immigration officer know where you have been, and when.

Follow the yellow line and have a seat over there in quarantine.. :island14:
