Should I be excited that these exist or just happy that no one has sent me a box and asked me to webcast an event while I eat a box.

He thinks it was undercooked runny eggs.. I think it was the local water the first time he was here, or more likely ice we had bought and kept in the cooler along with foodstuffs that may have contaminated the water and ice.

That was during the time when we did not have electric for over 3 months...

But he may have got a bad egg, who knows, no one else got sick.. :island14:

The last time he was here in April he didn't drink the water, or eat eggs if I remember right, but did not get sick.

That's cool and all, but the overall amount of water on our planet has remained the same for two billion years. It doesn't bother me that cows require 2000 times more water to yield a pound of meat versus crickets. I'm with Cyber on this one - no bugs for me!

No - they are cookies...and as far as they are concerned, they will be eating cookies.

I am not the person you want to come to your "potluck" because I do like to cook and things I cook are tasty - but usually have something in them that you may not normally eat. I have recently used tripe and tongue , been thinking about adding in some chitlins - but the cricket thing is genius....I might see about finding some meal worms to throw in a rice dish.

Again - someone define normal. Is it only normal because it is culturally acceptable?

George Clinton said it best - "Free your mind and your ass will follow"

Shit that don't crawl around chirpin', for starters. Crickets are food for lizards. Lizards are food for birds. Birds are food for humans, maybe.

We throw away more chicken every single day than the total amount of insects eaten here in the USA since 1783. Well, not counting the ones we accidentally eat while asleep or riding motorcycles. :ack:

The problem with eating insects is that we really don't know much about the types of bacteria, parasites, and viruses they carry, and whether or not they can be transmitted to humans by eating them.

Insects are some of the most valuable and yet most persecuted members of our society, and yet precious little is being done to protect them.

I personally avoid eating other animals brains simply because, again, we don't know what sorts of viruses, prions, etc that can be transmitted to humans. It's probably safe, but why? They aren't something you need to eat, there are better and known-safe things that are widely available, and just because you can eat something doesn't mean you should eat something.

I will eat raw fish, but that's about it. Even there I'm risking getting a nasty bug or parasite. At least they are generally known though (and treatable.) Prions? Not so much. Eat a cow's brain that has mad cow disease, and oopsy you = screwed.

The sea cucumbers were not bad....and neither were those dried minnows he and I were eating that night watching some goofy Tagalog movie.

I think my favorite things were those pattys made from the dried minnows and egg and also those little longaniza sausages...

I was eating some raw fish tonight, but we cook it in vinegar only, no heat, the chemicals make it ok to eat I am told.

Add garlic and onions...

Nah, ceviche is great. Although for the acid I'd rather use lemon or lime juice. Sashimi, ceviche, as long as the seafood is fresh I'm good with it.
