I was actually supposed to go to Fort McMurray (Alberta) a couple of weeks ago to support some equipment, but there a commercial issues and it doesn't seem like anything will happen until summer time...not really complaining about missing out on some of that -40 (C or F) weather you got up there.

It was bad enough when I used to work in Wyoming.

Im starting to get tired of it... And Im running out of room to put all the snow!

Just heading out to work now, but the blizzard warnings have been changed to 11:00 am so I will have to leave early. We have about 5" over night, but this storm is calling for 3" an HOUR with totals in my area of close to 24" by Weds morning with 40 mile an hour winds. Looks like one of the top 3 worse storms we have ever had. 1967, 1979 to name two of the top of my mind.

I live about 90 miles SW of Chicago so we are in a rural area that gets LOTS of weather changes quick.

Hope all of you in the path are safe and warm, and we will all be fine if we don't lose elec. power to keep the furnaces going.

Damn, got up this morning and no water. We're on a well and when it gets below 10* the switch tends to fail. I'll have to get that fixed for sure. Not sure if I'll try to make the 40 mile trip to work. About 10" of ice and snow so not too bad but 40-50 mph winds suck. Good luck to everyone else.

In inclement weather, you should...

1. Nail the accelerator from every stop.
2. Slam on the brakes at the slightest hint of trouble.
3. Tailgate....the closer the better...the car in front will help you stop.
4. Herky Jerky steering wheel movements provide the best control.
5. Above all, don't forget to keep texting.

El Paso is high desert....4000' elevation. It usually snows 1-2 times per year, about 1-2 inches each time, and melts off by noon. This crap isn't melting any time soon. The streets are a skating rink, and nobody here knows how to drive in it. The freeways are bad....the surface streets are a DMZ of wrecked cars this morning.

Half my co-workers called in today. Bunch of sissies.....2" of snow and it paralyzes the city. TXDOT has had the sand trucks out since early, so the roads aren't really that bad, just slick in spots....we just have an abundance of morons that can't drive in water, no less frozen water.

Our only real problem is that one power generation plant is down, so the city is doing 1 hour rolling blackouts to keep the grid afloat until it's fixed. They're rotating what part of town they shut down, so no real big deal.

Work is like a morgue....the bulk of our flights are from the Dallas area, and most are cancelled. We have directs from Chicago that aren't happening either...good thing, since we're on a skeleton crew.

Soooo....Tonight I shall crank up the fireplace, retract the doggiecone, and break out the Crown and coke. Life is good. :cheers:

We were coming back from Florida in January, a few years ago and were passing through San Antonio when we got the storm alert. It said there was going to be ice everywhere. We stopped, found rooms for all of us, and settled in. Four of the guys were mad at us for not pushing on, but my buddy and I wanted to be in a hotel when it hit.

Texas has a real nice internet set-up so you can see the weather conditions on the roads. We were surrounded by ice! Had a nice couple of days in San Antonio, but did not get to see much but the hotel and the restaurant. :willy:

As for California, I got stuck on the Grapevine, in my car, in the snow for 18 hours. :o_o:

I'm not really sure....there's a small trickle, but at this rate, it will be July before it thaws enough to become fully functional again....or before I can at least assess the damage.

Well Sweetsie, we're still having 1 hour rolling blackouts....and they are one hour, you can set your watch by them. I discovered last night exactly WHY you northerners use STA-BIL when I tried to start my generator in 5 degree temps with year old gasoline in them. I never did get the 5K unit started, but managed to start the 3500 I take with my fifth wheel after adding 2.5 gallons of fresh fuel to the half gallon of rancid stuff in the tank. It only took 75 pulls on the cord out in the cold before she finally lit off. My back still hurts today, but we had lights, fridge and freezer, and hot coffee once it got going. It stumbled for about 3 minutes and then ran like a top.

Mental note....add STABIL, start both units monthly and run. The big gennie started fine today, but the old fuel wasn't having any part of 5 degrees last night.

We have occasional blackouts here, too, and after being caught in the garage maze more than once, :willy: I put an emergency light in the overhead plug. It now lights up when the electricity goes off. Just a thought

You can make a lot of coin up in Edmonton and Ft Mac. You might have to take up a hooker and cocaine habit to stay occupied in the winter though:D
