Only 1 or 2 of you knew that I lost my job in January. (long story, shitty jealous manager....)
Tried to get a replacement job, but all along, really wanted to go back out on my own. I was out of the house from 1996 until 2009. When the housing market crashed in 2009 down here, my gig at the time disappeared. I painted myself into a corner needing a job.
This has been an extremely rough patch in my life, and I've incurred more debt than I wanted to, but I should now be able to start eliminating that debt quickly.
Long story short, I am finally back, finally independent, and no longer ever working for the man. The contract I just closed today, along with others already on the books, has finally put me over the income level I ever made working for the man from 2010-2014. Kiss my ass employers. :bye: Pipeline is filling up fast.....finally.

So...what do you do?
I do a lot, but the bulk of my business is is doing contract work for companies using an existing cloud-based application system, as well as bringing my own clients into my private cloud. It's a SaaS model, which means my customers pay a subscription fee for the software, in addition to paying me for writing it up front.
Bottom line, I automate companies, and am now taking a lot of them from the old Windows world of client-server software, into the cloud. Desktop, tablet, mobile, I do it all. I'll always be a geek.
I am happy to hear you have done what you've wanted too. :seasix::datawiz:

Good for upi, OP! I'm self-employed because...well, basically I just can't work for someone else. I tried it once--got fired. Don't look back: You'll be happier and make more money on your own. Remember: You can't get rich working for the other guy.
damn, pretty stupid higher ups to allow a manager to let you out the door from all the good shit you were doing IIRC.

Really good to hear, no wonder you had all that time to play with the cars and help your daughter.
So.......what, I give it a couple of years before Google or some mega company comes knocking on your door to offer you billions for your company????? :yesnod:
Congrats Craig. Glad to hear your back on your feet. :cert:

I'm trying to go in that direction, that's for sure, but what's happened in the last two months is people all over the country have realized that I am pretty much THE expert on this platform. :yesnod: A LOT of work has come in. Will be in Orlando at a trade conference for it in October, and am hoping a lot more will come from that too.

Can you protect the technology or ideas connected with it? Trade mark, or patents? :bigears:

I don't own the platform, a $2B market cap company does now, but I can certainly protect any application I write on it, but the majority of the work is coming in as consulting hours, several companies on annual contracts, because I'm the only one who seems to be able to help them. It's such a new platform, that it's kind of like the wild wild west. :yesnod:
Regardless of the consulting, the long term money is in building solutions that I continue to host. Coin drop mentality...software as a service.
Good for you, way to go! The American Dream! :seasix::cert:
