...And I'm taking it! I'm 58 with 36+ years of company service and am being offered full retirement with an $18k bonus. Last official day of work is Sept. 30 . I'm so freakin excited, but scared as hell at the same time :ohnoes:. Does that make sense?

One can'r help but worry when there's a reduction in income. You're still 9 years away from Social Security, but as small as it might be, it helps. Your biggest worry soon will be the cost of health care, and it only gets worse when you get on Medicare. Be very selective when your purchase supplemental Medicare insurance. Most folks wind of with medical care costs that are much greater than before.

You of course need substantial savings to augment your retirement income and SS. Most folks think of having a million dollars saved as everything they'll ever need. Most of them are sadly mistaken. People live so long now that most of them outlive their resources.

After you've been retired for a year or so, you can more accurately judge how the money is holding out. Don't be afraid nor ashamed to get another job if need be. And, of course, don't wait too long to get another job.

I'm retiring in 2 years and really looking forward to it. I'm comfortable and not really worried about it. But that can change for anyone.

There comes a time in one's life that you say "enough is enough". I had a job when I was 15, and worked thru to age 63, when I said........"enough.........".

In less than three months, we bought a retirement home, we both retired, and sold our old home. Got lucky, things just fell into place. No baller here, we saved a little, invested wisely, and now we are enjoying retirement, and never look back with the shoulda wouldas couldas.

Enjoy it, you deserve it. :seasix:

I have 20 months til I'm 60, which would be my next opportunity to retire. Not a hell of a long time to wait, but it is nice to get this offer now! :seasix:

Where are you moving too?

We put our place in Salem up for sale next May. We will be full time Floridians after that. My Hope is the heat does not bake my head like Gene :D

And congratulations. I still have a few years left. Then I am done.

Nice place with a great price. I will pass it around to people I know. Most are in the same boat looking to downsize.

Thanx. I spent years getting it to this point, but now no longer need all the room... or the tax bill!!

I retired 7 years ago, at age 55. I went back to work 3 months later as a contract engineer, and made more than I had ever made before. A year ago, I retired for good. I have no regrets on the early retirement. :seasix:

Tell me about it.

2 Acres Plus with Pool and three garages. Between the taxes, Electric, heat and maintenance it's cost 20K a year to keep it up. Like I said we sell next year and are down in Florida full time.
