It was dinnertime, but I just wasn't that hungry although I only had a small salad, saltines, and a bottle of water for lunch. Since my usual gin and tonics had already been my appetizer, I felt like I should eat something.

The fridge had steamed spinach, roasted asparagus, what looked like a healthy dish of Brussels sprouts with yams and some kinda of seeds, half a tomato, and French bread.

The vegetable bin had okra I picked yesterday, onions, bell peppers, jalapenos...wait--okra, onions, and jalapenos? Soon I was heating vegetable oil, and slicing okra, onions, and jalapenos to be dipped in an egg and then corn meal. A piece of French bread went into the toaster, and the tomato was sliced and put on my plate. I put butter on the table for the bread.

Soon I was eating a big plate of fried okra, onions, and jalapenos with buttered hot French bread. My mouth is now comfortably scorched, but I'm cooling it down with another gin and tonic. Who GARA if I die early..and happy.

The plus/positive side to your supper - veggies are good for you! It was close to vegan dinner.

No cornbread or cobbler?
I like to chop green tomatoes and toss them in with the okra and fry it.

I love the green tomatoes in the mix, too, but I didn't have any. My tomato crop is over. The plants are already dead. And I've yet to see a green tomato at the grocery or at a farmer's market.

I'd have gout and arthritis for a week if I ate all those night shade veggies. :cry:
....especially asparagus, that I love.:(

Hard to beat a dope plate of collard's or turnip greens seasoned with fatback and cornbread.... :drool:
