View Full Version : Sad day putting our dog to sleep
Been on my mind all day. We have the appointment at 4:30. I've been in tears on and off all day trying to hold it together. He has been part of the family for over 6 years. He was a rescue dog which the previous owners kept in the basement.
We love you Buddy, see you on the rainbow bridge.

It never gets any easier. At my age I've had to put down lots of pets, and each time it's just as bad. :sadangel:

Sorry to hear that man, and been there about 6x through the years.....
and I'm not even a per person, just the various wives.....
not that I unattached to them fuzzy friends, just that I would never initiate it in the first place.....
just the way it is.....Like the cats they jump up and pester me overnight, and so I sneak up on BO the geeky male this afternoon...he intent on preening himself.... concrete/carpet floor so even this dinosaur walks up totally silent....get up next to him.....and do a PSSSSSSTTTTTT, and he jumps up about a foot in the air......

My condolences. :sadangel:
I may have to do this soon myself. Our Dixie has a chronic and thus far incurable bowel disease and she is getting worse and worse. :sadangel:

Yes, you will. My wife once had a Pekinese that was a holy terror, but she decided that she would be my friend. I was the only person she wou;ldn't batk at incessantly. She had pedigree, and we bred her. She got sick...and sicker over the following months. The vet said that it happens.
What he didn't discover was that inside her womb were not puppies but pus. She had a horrible infection, and she died. We buried her at a pet cematery, and I bawled like a little kid.

I'm choked up right now at the thought.
That's it! I'm shutting down and leaving the office and going home to give my puppy a big hug.
Thank you everyone. He went peacefully with my wife and I rubbing and petting him. He rescued us as much as we rescued him. We came home and the other pups looked at us like where is the big guy. I still am choked up and sniffling over Buddy.

Beautiful spirit in that dog, you gave a great life to.
It ain't easy.
To echo what Esquire Spencer added, it's even harder as we get older.
Our condolences.
I remember when you got that dog. We talked about Aussies right before you got him because I had one at that time but he also has passed.
Boomer will be there waiting on Buddy.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It's hard as I'm sitting here petting my little guy Kirby who's lying next to me.

So sorry to hear. I have been through this at least a half dozen times over the years. We had to put our Manx cat Chloe down just a couple of months ago. It is always hurts. If the animal is a pet and member of the family (as opposed to livestock), you are not human if you dont hurt

Sorry for your loss, my mom had to put down our almost 12 year old Newfie last week. Every time I went to visit this year, I said goodbye knowing it could be the last goodbye. It hurts, but may you find comfort in the love and joy you shared in those short 6 years. :sadangel:

One more small thought on this. He was a rescue. You pulled him out of a bad situation and gave him the best life you possibly could and let him pass with dignity. That's all anyone (2 legged or 4) could bet possibly hope for.

The only loathsome part of pet ownership is having to say goodbye. It is absolutely heart-wrenching. I am convinced God put dogs on Earth to show us humans how to love unconditionally. My deepest condolences to you. :sadangel:

I'm sitting in my chair with 1 that has his head on my lap and 1 laying on my feet.
Both are getting an extra treat today in Buddy's honor.
