I'm not talking about the "I had a bad day and tomorrow will be better" kind of stress, I mean the "I work my ass of 14-16 hours a day, and am not getting everything done that I need to, Murphy's Law is kicking my ass" kind of stress. I've never let things get to me, but lately its been wearing me down and I just feel like shit and am exhausted. What do you guys do to handle the stress?

Drugs. Prescription ones. Lots of them.

Since I'm 59, about a couple of years ago, I now only work 8 hr/day 5 days/week. If things don't get done, well then don't get done. You have to learn to balance your work with home.
In my line of work, I'm at a PC all day or I go to meetings. I crunch spreadsheets and analyze data. When I get home, I fire up a PC game: TF2 and release some tension on people I'm playing. After about 1-1½ hrs of game play, then I move on to something else.
If you young, working lots of OT for extra $$$ is fine, but it can burn you out quickly if the cycle does not end. Then comes the money piece: people get use to the extra $$$ then are disappointed when the OT ends.

I like a bit of torque and recoil. Hit the range whenever you can and burn a couple hundered dollars worth of ammo. During hunting season, you might even get the opportunity to kill something good to eat as well. Ride a bike, take a walk, read in the crapper... take some time each and every day to disconnect; even if it is only 15 minutes.

It would be easy to leave work at work, if I didn't own my own businesses. Both are doing ok, but very demanding of my time/energy/focus.

You have to make a plan to cure it: First, exercise every day or at least 3 times a week. Exercise is a great stress reliever. Two, maintain your health in all ways, from food, to sleep, to diversions. Three, a mind is capable of doing enormous amounts of work, lots more than we think it can. You just have to train your brain to handle more. It takes time. Remember that totsl competence at what you're doing is a great time maker.
If all else fails, say feck it and go home.

I play volleyball and lately iRacing. I am physically and mentally drained after a race and makes it a breeze to go to sleep.

"My advice to you is to start drinking heavily!" - Brother Bluto
Just take a walk. Easy.
People need to trash their treadmills and people who go to the gym to use a treadmill need to burn their membership cards. They're robbing themselves of most of the benefits of taking a walk.

Well, that all depends on the neighborhood you live in. A walk outside could prove worse than drinking yourself into a stupor.

Agreed. I recently read that a long walk every day has the same benefit or very nearly the same benefit of doing gym stuff. Of course if you need to lose weight faster or want to build muscle mass, you need a gym.

Stress can be bad on your health. Can't you delegate some of the load? YOU can control it yourself. Put your mind to it and get it in the right frame of mind.

Stress??? What is that of which you speak of?
Haven't had any since Dec 31, 2009, my last day of work. Love retirement.
Hummmmmm.....my biggest stress issue is deciding what Vette to drive today, the C3....or the C7, nice cool day, the former, hot day, the latter. :D

I've never owned a business, so I can't speak to the stress with that- but my previous job was shift commander at a local police department. Carried ALL my work home, to the point of listening to the police radio while in my shop, making sure my guys were o.k, and rushing in to deal with problems instead of telling them to handle it....it nearly killed me,literally, and nearly cost me my marrage and my daughter.
I changed jobs and began focusing on family more. Now, I fire up the '46, grab a cold Dr Pepper, and see if the little one wants to spend an hour or so riding around dirt roads. She generally does, and sometimes Mama comes along to.
An hour of that and I have no stress. :D
Ain't none of us getting out of life alive- so I try to enjoy every minute with what's important.

I have found that archery greatly reduces my stress. Nothing quite like being able to place three arrows in a 2" group at 40 yards. Plus, it's a skill that can be used to murder tasty woodland creatures.

You must live a horrible life.:sadangel:
I try to do something physical every evening around the mini farm. Yesterday I cranked up the tractor and plowed the dead corn under preparing to plant the fall corn. Just walking to the barn is enough to get me thinking more clearly. I sit behind a computer all day too, most days.

I assume you meant to say Fall corn. I've never heard of Fall corn. I thought corn was a warm weather crop.

Go to the range and hit a large bucket. I'm a member so I just show my card and I can hit as many as I like.
Treadmill and weights are great as well. Get those endorphins flowing.
I don't really see a point in using anything unnatural (e.g. pot, alcohol) to calm one's self down.

So far, nothing I've tried has helped. Unwanted job change at work, grandkids needing help, wife having surgery, it's all a bit much at times.......and that's not counting my high blood pressure, cholesterol, sodium levels. All the changes I'm doing to better my physical health makes me feel like chit mentally.

how do you handle stress?
In my case, not well. The kind you are talking about can really kick your ass. It gets to me too.
I just continue to push through and take the problem in bite sized pieces instead of a huge gulp, or say f*** it and take one night to break away and hang with friends and remember what life is really about.
In the short term, I used to get in my Corvette and blast down some untraveled backroad in a spirited manner.
Lately I use music to provide escape.
I try to internalize it; let it build up until I'm pretty sure one of my eyeballs will shoot across the room at any minute. I'll be dead at my desk in a couple of years. It's my retirement plan.

Quite a few good answers here in replies but none seemed to quite hear what you are saying.
As a professional escapee from the rat race please let me just share a few thoughts. :D
Hear me, don't hear me is up to you....
From what little I hear from you.... your business has owned you... :(
You don't own it! or you would tell it to shut the hell up at 5PM. If not It owns you!
Yes I know there are a lot of responsibilities that go along with owning your own business, and there is never enough time in the day to get it all done... and there has to be a limit that you set on how much time you will allow it to run your life.
Set your own hours, and let the rest sort it out in tomorrows schedule.
I agree that it is hard to be self employed and forget your work after 5.. you can think abut it after work if you like, for tomorrows plans, and brain storming for ideas.. but remember, that we work to build a business to bring the funds to enjoy life.
Soooo..... Just try to enjoy life.. :island14:

Yes, 'Fall' corn.
In my area warm weaather will continue for another 3-4 months. I could plant tomatos right now and have them until Thanksgiving.
