I was going to say it looks like a rat snake, especially near the gutters like that. Well fed for sure. :sneaks:

All snakes are named deceased if they cross my path.

Can you come up here and make it so? All the neighborhood kids ran screaming from it. TIA. :kimblair:

A resident saw it (took the pic) called Animal Control and they wouldn't come get it.

Any other suggestions?

I use a landscaper's rake and come down hard on them from above. Either they get caught in between the tines or are skewered. Then take a spade shovel and.....off with it's head! :ack:

What I see in the pic, makes me suspect a Moccasin. Need better focus on the head.

here's some clues, though:

Can't say. Too far away. Can you get a closer shot? Need to see head shape and scale patterns.

If you have a CO2 fire extinguisher just spray it. They freeze up pretty quick.

Then chop them up with s shovel. Or better yet make chili out of it.

I thought one of the identifying descriptions of a moccasin is a bit shorter/thicker than other snakes.

I can tell one thing for certain in this picture. It should be a dead snake.

The picture makes me suspect moccasin, however a better look at the head would certainly help better identify it.

We've been having moccasins show up at the range lately, I ran one over with my truck a few weeks back, a buddy shot two while he was trying to unlock the gate.

Why not leave it alone?

I'm in your camp. However, if it's someplace where it can get to a family member or pei, it does need to be dealt with. I had a similar experience where an adult diamond back was heading across the road into my pasture. My husband helped me scoot it into a 30 gallon trash can. I used a bungie cord to strap the lid on, put the can in the back of my suburban and seatbelted it in. I drove it out to a remote area, took the lid off the can and threw it one way and ran 10 yards the opposite way. It was crazy and stupid, I know, but I just couldn't bring myself to kill it. :leaving:

Cottonmouths are the most vicious, territorial, and smelly snakes I know. They don't run away like your typical water snake or black racer.

There are two types of snakes I kill.

1. Obvious poisonous snakes, wherever I find them.

2. Any snake that I find in my patio pond, because I don't GAF if it's poisonous, I don't want it in there eating my fish or rubbing up against my arm when I reach down to clean the filter.

I'f I'm not sure it's poisonous, and it seems to want to get away from me, I leave it be. It's probably just a bull snake or some other beneficial specie.

That picture does look like a moccasin or cottonmouth. Last one I killed was when I was in a canoe and it swam over to us. I gave it a nice chop to the head with my aluminum paddle. :D
