Been looking for one of these for a while, they are unicorn like in rarity, to find one at all, even a decent one, is one in a million it seems like.

Guy has a 1997 Suburban, 3/4 Ton, 4X4, Seats 8....6.5 Diesel, Automatic...etc

Custom ordered paint...white truck with the flares and lower body dark blue.

230K miles...

Needs 2 tires, not worn, but there is some light cracking between treads, frotn 2 are brand new. Starts and seems ot run fine, he drove it 5 miles to meet me, I cna hear the vac pump is going out, but I have one I can swap on, its all stock under the hood.

Frotn leather seats are ripped on the bottoms...typical GM pleather.

He is asking 4500....I offered 3000, he went to 3800, but I only had 3500 with me...he wouldnt go for it.

Hate to lose it over 300 bucks, but I think 3500 is all its worth, with the minor problems it has, and for those miles.

As a former 97 Suburban owner, I would have been ecstatic for 3500. Granted mine was the 5.7 but mine only hAD 187K on the clock when I sold it. Too much, move on.

That said I LOVED my Suburban.

Was yours a 3/4 ton 4x4 model?

I'm just concerned that it doesn't have enough miles on it for you Red.

I wouldn't have given 3500 for it. 3 Grand TOPS.

Heck, I sold my '97 Expedition, with less than 90,000 miles and in very good shape except for where some idiot backed into my rear passenger door for $3500 and that was in 2010. And I was lucky to get that much. Who wants something that gets less than 12 MPG these days?

230K miles...

how much would you give for it as it sits... but if the engine was absent?
That's how you should price it.

These actually get 17-22....

Downhill with a 75mph tailwind??

There is no way in hell it gets 17 MPG in town. No freaking way. I will admit I don't know much about diesels but that EPA rating for the 1997 Tahoe with that engine and 4WD is 14/17 and the Tahoe is smaller than the Suburban by quite a bit. Thing is, I don't see that Suburban with that engine listed here (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Chevrolet1997.shtml). However, compare the Suburban to the Tahoe with the same engine:

1997 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4WD 8 cyl, 5.7 L, Automatic 4-spd, Regular Gasoline: 11/15

1997 Chevrolet Tahoe 1500 4WD 8 cyl, 5.7 L, Automatic 4-spd, Regular Gasoline: 12/16

So I'd say your unicorn would get about 13 city, 17 highway - tops. At almost 20 years old maybe it's learned how to magically get 22 MPG on the highway, yeah, that's the ticket!

It's not that I don't trust your opinion, but really, I'll wait 20 years and a bazillion or so miles until Red can confirm that.

Before I did all the mods, like 33" tires, upped the fueling and t iming ALOT, increased boost to 15psi, etc...my 1995 K2500 got 16-20mpg unloaded...honest to God fuel economy. That is with 4.10 gears though.

This particular K2500 Suburban has the more efficient GM8 Turbo, 3.73 gears, 31" tires, and stock boost control, that was designed to allow boost only as needed...

18-22 is a very real number for even this 6000lb monster...

Ill say this, he says he used to commute to Mississippi and he could go 720 miles between fillups, not letting the 42g tank go empty, thats about 19mpg right there.

Our 94 3/4 ton 7.4 liter Suburban gets 13 MPG at whatever you are doing. Sitting idle I think it still gets 13. I cry sometimes if the tank gets below a half and I need to fill it up. A 40 gallon tank at $3.60 a gallon hurts.

If I need to pull, tow or move something this is the truck to do it with.

I'm mostly referring to the new body styling and interior.

Yes. But what truck that's nice is cheap? None.

I bought a Tahoe Z71 4x4 new in 2004. It's still one of the nicest riding and most practical, useful vehicles I have ever owned. :seasix:

I don't disagree.
My 1st home in Destin was 64K. Brand new. 1990. One block from the beach.

Damn. Times were better then.

Probably going ot end up passing on it, shockingly....I just cant like the paint scheme enough to drop over 3K into it..knowing it needs another grand in fixing...

There will be others...
