... How do you cope?

Gage left Monday morning and i hadn't cried that hard for years. :shots:
I am in awe of those parents who seem to manage.

While he's gone I would like to send him care packages, any ideas on what items that a poor college student would appreciate?

I guess the grammar nazis will be all oner that title. :leaving:

Oner? I guess I need sleep.

Awwww....your baby left the nest.

Male college student ? Pack him some condoms, extra sheets, beer pong table, aspirin for hangover, and a 24/7 phone number for a bail bondsman.

That should get him through his freshman year.

I cried like a baby as we left the campus.
I was over it in two days and love the silence.
My wife on the other hand will never get over the separation anxiety.
I think that it's a lot harder for women.....

That sounds like us. Before he left the only time it seemed we'd see him was when it was time to eat.

My wife and girls are really close. They communicate on a daily basis sometimes two or three times a day, even though Eryn is in Africa.
If they want to talk to me, either something is wrong, or they want money.
Lately though, I've been in constant contact with Eryn, reading, critiquing, and proofing her med school application essays. She doesn't trust mom for that..:Jeff '79:
I hate to say it but I'm not looking forward to her living with us when she returns in November. Liz can't wait... I love my daughters, but I like the peace and quiet.

I send them a Subway or Newks gift card as a surprise so they get mail. I always include a short letter of what we are up to and they really enjoy getting these little surprises.

Also, we started a big tailgate group with parents in the same boat as us... Now we can go visit on game weekends!

Quarters for laundry!!!!! And snacks, like cheeze its, or chips. Homemade delights(brownies cookies) gift cards to the local supermarket and to the local restaurants, campus food gets old fast. Toilet paper is a need too.

As a college student I appreciate these things!

When my son went of to college I got a AMEX card in his name and taped it to the back of his glove compartment. About 8 months into school he had major car problems and needed cash now to get the car fixed. I told him about the card, he used it then I canceled his card.

When I went to visit a month later I got another card and hid it in his car again.

A car?

I walked everywhere I went.

Homemade goodies. Letters.

A reminder to go to all classes and do his homework.

We shipped his car out to him. :yesnod:the homemade goodies seem to be popular.

We drove my baby to LA about 10 years ago. I had made plans to drive up to Carmel and spend a few days, go to the Grand Canyon on the way home and hike and celebrate our new freedom.

I drove away from the dorm feeling more blue than I can remember. We went to Carmel, stayed one night and headed back to Missouri. I never dreamed how sad I would be.

We got over it after a few days and now have both daughters close by with grandkids. Hang in there and enjoy watching the fledglings learn to fly.
