This morning I leave for work on my motorcycle wearing the normal gear, boots, reinforced motorcycle gloves and my full face helmet. I go easy thru the gears and am doing 45 mph which is the speed limit on my road.

I'm only a 1/2 mile from my house and something black catches my attention quartering towards me on my right side.

BLAM !!!!

A Robin sized bird smashed right into my faceshield / chin bar on my helmet. It literally moved my head a few inches to the left with the impact. A quick check in the mirror didn't show any "remnants" other than feather oils on my faceshield and a couple small scratches.

An open faced helmet or no helmet would have been a big problem as the combined impact speed was probably in excess of 70 mph ( my 45 mph plus the bird was moving pretty quick ).

With how hard it hit, I don't think the bird made it :sadangel: But due to the gear, I'm fine :yesnod:

When riding, pick a part of your body you don't like and don't protect it.

I almost hit a damn Turkey last year. Helmet, no helmet, it would have knocked me clean off my bike.

About 40 years ago, a buddy was following another friend and his g/f in back, so two bikes one behind a ways, so this kid pulls out and fishtails he car head on into Larry, combined speed about 70 mph+ so Larry figgers he is dead and relaxes, closed his eyes even.....told of his eyes being forced open as he was in mid air flying with various pieces of shrapnel whirling around.....

Bob called ahead to warn me of Larry's condition, so he knocks on my door, standing there with crutches, legs all braced up arm same thing, looked like a horror show.....later on he showed my his helmet, the pretty blue metallic paint was about 95% gone, with some pretty deep scrape marks......

he landed some 20' behind the car, realized he was alive after all the action, turned over on his back and got the tag #.....:seasix::issues:

He still laughs to this day about that is was his police training/reflexes that ensured he got the tag......

A couple of years ago during the 17 year Cicada invasion, took one of those hard shell bastards right between the eyes. I was lucky to get the bike stopped while I was seeing stars. Sometimes it doesn't matter how careful you are-nature can over ride it.

Glad you're alright brutha

I used to run with a shell and then a 3/4 but after a few months of that I did the full faced helmet.

A couple days after I put the fairing on I had a pallet slide off the truck in front of me at 60 mph. Thing hit the street and exploded sending large pieces at me.

May be hot when it gets over 80 but so worth it. :yesnod:

Need to mount shotguns on our bikes to clear a path so there will be no more bird impacts.:seasix:

Funny you say it was a Robin. I was reading how all the micro, radio, cell phone, and electrical waves have screwed up the Robins magnetic compass and they are having a hard time with their sense of direction. Seems that they have 2 sensors, one in the beak and one in the brain that's messed up with man's negative waves ....man. :(

That's why you see less Robins now, especially in built up areas. :(

You could wind up with a concussion with an attitude like that.

Friend of a friend got cleared off his HD by a deer jumping off a bank next to the road. Cycle went a 1/4 mile down the road before veering into the ditch. He spent almost a month in the hospital :sadangel:

But would your hair still look good? Gotta keep things in perspective. :D
Hard to say. A turkey is gonna do some damage. Probably mess it up a bit but I carry two combs and stow away brush. I'd recover.

Every single day I ride into work on the Geezer Glide I see at least one. And it's not the one you see you need to worry about, it's the two that follow.

Rut starts close to the end of the month. The bucks are running around with a "bit of trim" on their mind. Those 6 weeks are crazy :yesnod:

Fall is the WORST. There's mornings I leave work at 5:30 am, just as the sun is coming up. It's like running the gauntlet.

Really messed the top of his head.
