That is one incredible soundWe live near DuPage County Airport (regional) and one Sunday the Mrs. and I were out for a drive.
We were on side road that runs along the property when I heard this incredible rumble.
I look up and see a B17 coming in for a landing, followed by a B24.
We pulled over and watched them land and taxi to the hanger.

My wife couldn't understand why I thought that was a great sight & sounds! :willy:

That sound just makes a gearhead wiggle in places that don't normally wiggle.

The sound of an old an warbird screaming overhead...there's just no other sound like it.

"Think of yourself being in the year 1940. You are in the sky with nothing but the roaring drone of turboprop engines and a fighter escort to comfort you. The air around you is hot and sticky from being in one place for some time. Then imagine the booming sound of jet engines... streaking by with astonishing ease. Now you hear the songs of death angels as they make their deadly music. That’s when you think about the lives at stake, determining you to complete your mission."

Sweet sound no doubt. Nothing like hearing that Merlin V12 in person :)

I see a couple of them flying in and out of the airport near my house somewhat frequently. There's some other classic warplanes in the area too including a restored B24. There's something cool about being able to step outside when you hear them flying around and getting a little show!
