That sounds like the dog equivalent of, "look, if we shoot the employee, burn down the store, and fire the manager, will that be satisfactory to you?"

Put up a fence.
I did last week. I even altered the fence line in such a way to deter the dog from continuing to piss in my yard. The overgrowth in this pic is where the old fence was. You can see the damage the dog has done. Now he just follows the fence up and continues to go in my yard.

You can sorta see the old fence line a bit here.

The owner needs to put up a fence. Not you.
I have a similar problem here. But I have 15 acres. As long as that dog doesn't attack me again, I'll keep my gun holstered.

Yup.. :yesnod:
And his message to you seems sincere.
I think it is important to get along with the ones that live close to you, and cant imagine having a neighbor from hell like Pete (Thrax) has.
Most of my neighbors just let their dogs run 24/7, and for some reason every dog in the village including strays love to make poo in our Bermuda grass.
It took a lot of work to get that planted (sod) and we put a lot of time into it, and really pisses me off to see some stupid ball licker squatting in my yard destroying it.
I have most of the yard fenced off now to keep them out, but did leave an area at the side to let everyone pass to get to the sea.
My one neighbor thought is was really funny watching me yell at his dog every time it was in my yard and throwing rocks at it to shoo it away.
When I told him how much the dogs all made me angry when we were drinking Rhum one night, he laughed again, but told me he was going to cook it in a few weeks for his daughters birthday.
To be neighborly since he at least offered to fix the problem, I offered to buy them the garlic, lemon grass, onions, Soy sauce, ect... for the fixings.

Kinda what I thought too.. Like he's trying to make me feel bad for something they were doing that they know was wrong and now he's annoyed that I called him out on it. My yard didn't get that way from the dog doing it once or twice. Three times a day they let him out and he goes straight to my yard. Additionally every time I mow my yard I have to hose down my mower before I put it up due to dog shit in the tires. I figured when the fence went up it would stop but now he just goes around it up the hill and does the same shit.
There's nothing more frustrating than hosing off dog shit off of one of your kids shoes when they are playing in YOUR OWN YARD and you don't even have a dog anymore.

I hear you but it still annoys me due to what I mentioned above. Additionally I pay for a lawn treatment service to fertilize/aerate/overseed etc... Kinda annoying to have a 10'x10' portion of your yard shot that you pay good money to maintain due to something like this.

You could always do a Redistribution Of Poop.
Shovel it over into his yard.
Bonus points if you do it in such a way that he won't notice it until he tracks it on his shoes into his house or his car.

All the yards in this burb are so infected with weeds, it would take 1/2 the nations annual weed killer output to kill them all off, but at least they grow thick, so it looks green and everyone as an annoying little dawg, that runs around to all the lawns and so to swap shit and piss back and forth.....:issues::rofl:
Just send him a pic of your twig and berries.

:iagree: same sh_t for me i have cut all my trees down 14 in all and have a clean yard every time it turns into fall, i have to bag over 30 bags of leaves and my gutters are always packed, would love to throw that sh_t back into my neighbors yard, i feel you, you are damned if you do, damned if you dont
very sad, indeed
Sounds like he's knows there's a problem but isn't doing a damn thing about it. Sorry to hear your dog is old, but it's still your responsibility to take care of it.

My dog had two luxating patellar (think torn ACL).
I carried a 70 pound pit up and down those stairs in the pic several times a day for 5+ months.

Reading the OP's original text message and it's follow-up, it appears to me like neighbor isn't a half bad guy. He apologized, and said he'd remedy the situation.
I know that doesn't play into your theory of irresponsibility however. Oh well. Spence will be along soon. :cert:

The owner clearly knew he wasn't taking responsibility for his pet, and tried to make excuses when caught.

Wife had a larger brown/tan Chiwawa she brought into the marriage....and so when time came, I let it out back, and it scrambles off, through/under the fence and into Chucks yard under a leaf patch near a tree, and was dying, found her, and took to the vet to be put down.....
a few months later, I asked what wife wanted for b'day or Xmas, I forget which and daughter said another Chiwawa....so I said you do the looking and see what you think, lemme know.....so 200 bux later daughter walkes in with this really small rat dawg in her arms, black with a brown tummy....
wife was in tears of JOY.....
IMO, another annoying pest has been introduced to the house.....I think I have pet allergies, itching, throat/breathing/coughing, eyes watering.....
so to find a shop vac with a 6" hose on it, and vacuum up the source of the problems.....2 cats and a dawg.....

You know the really strange thing, Linda feeds some 4 +2 part time strays out front twice a day.....plus our I/O cats in the house here, and of course the Chiwawa.....not long ago I put in another pet door in the glass room, so from kitchen to there, then outside....and the house cats stay in the back yard, they totally capable of jumping on/over the fence but not so far....
two disgusting gifts so far....one was a rat, the other was a make cardinal/redbird.....damnit....

We had a black cat who tried to appease us and take up roost last year right before we got Bruce, our Boxer dog. The cat dropped off two bunny heads and three headless European Starlings before Bruce smelled his scent on that area on our front porch and urinated on it. This offended the cat, and he never came back!

Its just grass.
-I spend $200-300 a year to maintain my lawn between fertilizing, aeration, overseeding, etc...
-My kid has stepped in dog shit playing in our yard and we don't have a dog any longer.
-Every time i mow my lawn i have to take time to hose down my mower to get the dog shit out of the tires from his dog.
-I put up a new fence and changed the foot print of it in part to deter this behavior.
If you were in my position, i doubt you would feel as if it was "just grass."

I have a fuktard neighbor a couple houses down. He never had his dog on a leash, no matter if he was walking the dog around the neighborhood, or letting it out to do it's business. The dog was friendly enough (not the point) but would always wander to adjacent properties to take a dump. My sister (next door to me and fuktard) once mentioned to him that his dog was always shitting in our yards, and we'd get shit all over our lawn tractor tires and her kids shoes. He said, "I'll take care of it." Not only did the dog continue to wander around shitting wherever it pleased, but now the fuktard would be in tow with a shovel over his shoulder.
Yep, his answer was to walk around everyones yards with the dog . . . but it was ok because he took the shit with him. It was real nice with people over relaxing, having his dog run by followed by this idiot with a shit shovel.
The dog is no longer with us. Do not miss.

Another thing i didn't mention.. As part of the fence project i had my guys fix his fence on my dime. His fence was separated from the posts on the bottom and i took care of it. My new fence meets up with his and this was a portion of his original fencing.
I'm a good neighbor. At least i try to be..

I think the real blessing here is that the dog isn't big like a German Shepherd or a Saint Bernhard. Those poops would swallow the kids like quicksand. "The poop got me, dad! Tell my story!"
