1 1/4 hp? Man! Your garage door must be really heavy.
Is it a belt drive or a chain drive?
What kind was your old one?

Yes and yes.

So when you press the button, it goes up or down?

The current one was a genie half horse lasted 15 years of being basically a front door. I bought a newer genie last night but in reading the reviews they were horrible so I took it back and replaced it with this chamberland belt drive which is suppose to be real quiet. Double garage door not real heavy.

When I had mine installed we did a new insulated door, new springs and the new opener. I can now open my garage and nobody in the house can hear it :yesnod:

But don't get any ideas I get an alert on my phone as soon as it's opened.

1/2 hp Liftmaster belt drive.

If I had to do it again, I'd consider shaft drive.

Sears 150 buck chain drive with the nylon gears, been there since I have owned the house.....and I have changed the gears only once.....only problem is that the contacts that limit door travel make it bounce up on the tension once in a while so to clean them....and of course the main springs on top of the door itself, but that's not the opener....:seasix:

:iagree:

I never thought I would be excited about a garage door opener, but I was once we had our chamberlain installed. Sounds like the same model, 1.25hp. I love the belt drive, so quiet. I like the wall mount panel in the garage that gives time and temperature. :seasix:

The NOISE is not the opener, it's that 5000 lbs DOOR in the tracks, adjust that thing right, and you hear nothing, I have to be next to the kitchen/garage door to hear the damn thing, IF I am at this computer here in the L/R, around the corner, I have to look at the indicator in the wall to tell if the thing is open or closed....damn sure can't hear it.....wife comes back with a load of groceries, door WAS closed.....I hear the car door/engine louder than the G/Door....so I glance at the indicator.....

I"m saying it's QUIET!!!!

A Chamberlain belt drive and a well adjusted/lubricated door and you can barely hear it in the garage, let alone on the other side of the wall.

It's in the opener...chain drive versus belt drive. I'm sure the door makes a difference too, but we changed our opener and left the same door on. The noise difference was substantial.

I need to know about that setup!

Can you close the door if someone leaves it open? That's what I want

1/2 hp Liftmaster belt drive.

If I had to do it again, I'd consider shaft drive.

I have a pair of genie shaft drive excelerator openers. The best thing about them is the fast open feature. Opens in half the time it takes to close. A slow opener would drive me nuts at this point.

:iagree:

If I ever have to replace my opener I will definitely be getting a shaft drive.
Much cleaner looking installation, and very quiet.
The only drawback would be the need to have an electrical outlet near the door. Most houses built since the 80's already have an outlet near the center of the garage ceiling for an opener, but may not have an outlet close to either end of the torsion bar.
