It appears that Typhoon Rammasun (aka Glenda in the Phillipines) has come ashore and is the equivalent of a Level 3 hurricane here in the U.S.

A Level 3 has sustained winds of 115 mph and is shoving 6' to 10' waves on to the beaches, however it appears that in and around Cebu it should be a Level 1 storm with 30 to 60 mph winds.

Accordingly, Tim make sure that everything is battened away and hopefully you and yours can ride out this storm successfully.

A level one!? The only thing he needs to do is make sure he doesn't run out of Rhum or ice. :leaving:

All good here... :kimblair:

This is going through Manila which is North of us.

We have been getting a lot of rain and wind, but nothing too bad other than a few roof leaks now and then.

There are some reports of loss of life and homes in the news, I hope this passes quickly without harming many people or their homes.

After going through a Category 5 last year, a Cat 1 does not sound bad at all anymore... :datawiz:

Probably how a bull rider feels when he hears about someone just riding broncs.. :D

Tropical Storm Risk described Rammasun, expected to bring moderate to intense rainfall of up to 20mm per hour within its 500-km radius, as a category-one typhoon, on a scale of one to five of which five is the most severe.

It is the strongest storm to threaten the country since Haiyan, a category-five “super typhoon”, wiped out nearly everything in its path when it crossed the central Philippines in November.

I don't even get out of bed for a Category 1.

It is signal 3 in the Manila areas of Luzon. so still not good, and everyone is still scared shitless from Typhoon Haiyan.

At least people many have learned what storm surge is now, I was reading about 300,000 have moved to higher ground as they are worried about storm surge.

To be honest... I did not know what storm surge was myself until Stangkiller and a few more here kept warning me about it, and I googled it.

It was what made my decision to send my family to higher ground when Yolanda was on the way back in November. :yesnod:

Probably a good idea since your house is 4' above sea level.

We were lucky, but had it not been for the guys here at the Barn I would not have known about storm surge... and possibly my ignorance could have cost my family their lives.

It was low tide when Yolanda hit, but still the surge made it up to the Bermuda grass in the front yard and took out the fence.

If it was high tide when it hit, we wouldn't have a house. :yesnod:

As you saw yourself when you were here visiting about 90% lost their homes in our village from the winds and falling trees.

I am still very grateful that our family was all safe and we have a home.

By the way your cousin Annie's friend Ken was here Friday and Saturday, and bought paint for Edward's family that they helped build a home for, and since Glen's house the other they helped with a hut was already painted... he bought paint for Tata. :hurray:

(both are done painting already as they did it the same day)

Ken has been over near Bogo helping build a few more huts this trip, and says if there are any funds left he will try to build one more here in our village.

Also Mark will be back in a few weeks from Thailand and says he plans to build a hut for someone.

She was up there pretty close to the action.. :yesnod:

Has anyone in your family heard from her since?

It is common for phones to be out for days after a big storm like this, so let them know not to worry too much just yet if they have not heard from her.
