This is the most moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that we've heard in quite a while.
That's because Marlana Vanhoose is no ordinary teen. According to Kentucky Sports, the Paintsville high school student is blind and was born with Cytomegalovirus, a virus that can cause developmental disabilities.
When she sang the anthem at a University of Kentucky women's basketball game last February at the age of 16, the audience wasn't prepared for her colossal talent.
"It was the best performance we've ever had here at Memorial Coliseum," Head Coach Matthew Mitchell told Kentucky Sports. "What an unbelievable voice on a little bitty girl."
Since then, the original Youtube post of her performance has been viewed over 100,000 times. It resurfaced on Facebook this month where it quickly went viral with over 90,000 likes and 340,000 shares.
If this doesn't put a tear in your eye something's not right with you.

That is one of the better performances I have viewed. You can tell that she was putting her heart into the song which tells me she believes in what she is singing. Thanks for sharing.:cert:

I certainly don't want to ctiticize this little girl, because she really did put her heart into it. but t's just another overdone rendition, IMO, of our National Antem. Way too screamingly loud in parts (as if volume is the only object of singing the Anthem), too much improvisation, lots of missed notes (intentional or not). Sorry...not impressed.
This is the way it's done...understated, with dignity, and as it's written:

One thing the World Cup showed very clearly was how a national anthem is supposed to be sung; By The People, not A Person.

I like this version best, 5 part harmony:

The National Anthem is to be sung, as it is written...not emphasizing parts of words, or adding parts to words...
For instance..."O'r the land...of the free......and the home...of the...braaaaveee.
no..
ORRR tha LAAAAHAAAANNND Of......the....FREEEEEEEEEEEEEHEEEEOHHHYOOHOMMMMYEAHHEEEEEEEE....and theeeee HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME of the...BRAAAAAHEYHEYHEYPRAISEJESUSAAAAAAAVEEEE.
I think...if you cannot sing it....just show the colors and have the music play....nothing more, nothing less.

I think she did an exceptional job! Naysayers be damned. I think for a person who has fought a lifelong fight like she has and will continue to, and excelled in the vocal area, she did better than 95% of the other "stars" that butcher the SHIT out of our National Anthem.
I think the young girl in the OP did a great job. Gave me goosebumps.
Beautiful and sad at the same time.

If that was your blind child with developmental disabilities you may see it differently.

I don't care how it is sung as long as you don't murder it like Rose Ann Barr.
I just enjoy hearing our nation anthem sung well by someone or a group giving it there best! :seasix:

Of course I would have seen it differently...but that's not the way she was presented. She was touted as as someone who "rocks the Anthem...the most moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that we've heard in quite a while...", not as a great performance by a developmentally challenged young girl. For her limitations she was very good. She was not good at all compared to other singers.

Fair enough.
But.
My comment was directed at Stumpy. Who though it wasn't special. I believe it was.

It wasn't special. Just because a handicapper does something does not make it special , it just makes it "special". If you can understand that.:slap:
