SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A 10-week-old kitten plummeted from a tall Savannah, Georgia bridge into the water below but survived and swam to shore.

Police suspect somebody threw the animal off the span and are looking for suspects.

The kitten is being called "Nemo" by caregivers at the Savannah animal shelter where he's recovering after Thursday's ordeal, said Julian Miller, a spokesman with Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan police. Miller visited the cat at the shelter Friday, and says he's expected to survive.

"No broken bones," Miller said. "He has several lacerations over and below his eye and his chin."

"The cat is very, very shy right now, and trying to find things to hide under, not very trusting," Miller added.

Construction crews reported hearing a noise Thursday and then seeing the kitten falling toward the water.

"But so far we've found nobody who actually saw anybody on the bridge throwing the cat," Miller said, adding it's unlikely a young kitten would climb the bridge on its own and then fall.

Kitten Swims To Shore After Being Tossed From Georgia Bridge (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/11/kitten-thrown-off-bridge_n_5578853.html)

If someone did this, he should be thrown from the same bridge repeatedly and has to swim to shore until he dies from exhaustion.

You fuk with animals and children? You deserve a beating so severe you spend the rest of your days eating through a straw

Reminds me of something I did: I was about 15-years-old, and I had driven to pick up my Mom from work one Saturday. I parked in front of the store she worked at to wait on her to get off work. Something in the rear-view mirror caught my eye in the empty lot across the street: Two of my classmates were beating a cat to death with sticks. Each time a blow landed the cat's legs stiffened.

I jumped out of the car and ran over to them and let one eat a fist sandwich at full speed. I spun around and gave the other one the same treatment. They were almost knocked out, but I waited until they could stand up and then broke their noses to get the blood flowing. I proceeded to give them a slow bone-fracturing, concussion-inducing. brain-swelling beating. One sat on the ground trying to cover his head with his hands. I grabbed his hands and pushed his finger backwards until they broke and then broke his nose to the other side.

The cat had already died. One eyeball was hanging from its socket. I picked up the cat and took him home for a decent burial.. Neither boy ever returned to school. I don't care if they died.

Thanks for listening to my rant. I still get mad when I think of it.

That bridge is way the hell up there, like 135 feet at high tide. It is also about a mile long from base to base... I guess some sick fkuc threw the cat from a moving vehicle since it is hugely unlikely the animal walked all the way up on it's own. I hope someone treats the perp in similar fashion if they catch his sorry ass.

Ok if a person did it, yeah they pretty much need to have their oxygen privilages revoked.

That said, we're kind of jumping to conclusions someone threw the kitten off the bridge.

It's entirely plausible the kitten got there by his own means and accidentally fell off the bridge.

Possible, yes. Plausible, no.

I'm with the police on whether someone threw the kitten off the bridge. I think it is highly unlikely that the kitten fell off on its own. Here's a cooment to the newspaper story:

"This kind of cruelty implies a dangerous mind.
And the fact that there have been several of these lately makes you wonder if it isn't the same person."

I felt like they deserved it. Like I said, I just get almost out of control when I picture thost two little punks torturing a cat like they were doing. It's only legal because some poor government in Africa needs the money.

Taking the life of another animal you are not going to eat simply for "fun" is sadistic, and a sin against nature.

"A sin against nature." WTF is that anyway? The only definition I find is homosexuality and related sexual acts such as anal intercourse. Most definitions are merely a characterization as a "sin against nature" by the reader to lend credence to a personal belief, not an actual sin.

Anyway, the extinction of a species is caused almost entrirely by human encroachment on the species' habitats, not by hunting. Poaching of rhinos and elephants for their tusks to obtain a supposed aphrodisical ingredient is leading to the extinction of certain species of rhinos and to an unecessary loss of epephants, but legal hunting is not.

I totally support conservation of all species, but you, JoeToooool, are again off-base with your analyses. [Plural] Just because you don't like something does not mean it's either sinful nor supported by facts.

I know what JoeToool is referencing, but those "laws of nature" just don't exist in fact. They are made up by the poster. That's fine to prove an artificial point, but not an actual point. And as for the "increasing revenue" from sport hunting, do you have an facts for that? I would guess that it would be down.

Seems that the people that actually did get the food would be appreciative.

And there are people that actually manage the balance of animal populations that are separate from the governments that need money.

Got some data that shows that this money just went to the government that needed money?

Some people are able to understand the difference between legal hunting and illegal animal abuse.

Sadly, far too many cannot...

Legality tends to lag ethical sensibilities. That is, only when the level of revulsion becomes high enough are legal prohibitions enacted. At various times and places all these things were/are legal: human slavery, female genital mutilation, dog fighting, cock fighting, bull fighting, and bear baiting.

Trophy hunting is on the bubble of acceptability. Many find it reprehensible.

Hunt trophies with a camera, not a gun.
