Verizon offering a $212 trade-in for your 16GB AT&T iPhone
Verizon originally announced their device trade-in program back in October, and it looks like they are going to also be accepting AT&T iPhones as part of that plan. Of course, nothing really all that shocking in that respect considering Verizon has always accepted devices from other carriers. That said, at least those looking to make the move from AT&T to Verizon will have a simple option in terms of getting cash for their AT&T branded iPhone. As for the dollar amount, Verizon will give $212 for your 16GB model. Of course, on the flip side, those willing to put forth a little more effort could get a bit more cash. I can say that in the past I have been able to fairly easily get $400 for my used but still in good condition iPhones by way of eBay. Given that, I would go the eBay route, but at the same time some may be looking to take the simple way and hey, $212 is really not all that bad.

Anyone using an iPhone that switches from AT&T to Verizon is a fool.

The iPhone will still only be 3G and the Verizon 3G network is significantly slower than the AT&T network.

The only reason I could see switching would be reception issues.

But in my area (and especially my office and home) AT&T has better reception and reliability than Verizon...one of the few, I suspect.

same here; AT&T is the dominant carrier - with the better coverage.

The Verizon deal could be a major boon to AT&T's reputation.

A lot of folks who bitch about AT&T will jump to VZW and find that the network is slower, they can't surf and talk and then, when a million of their friends start streaming Pandora its gonna be a big dose of reality.

I've never been a big AT&T fan - they have an idiotic dead spot on I-30 just west of downtown Fort Worth where I can count on dropping a call - it happened with my BlackBerry and two different iPhones so I know its AT&T and not the handset. The funny thing is I can see an AT&T store from where it happens.

I'd like to see Apple open it up and be on T-Mo, Sprint, Metro... all of 'em.

I doubt I'd ever switch from AT&T to Verizon; but this competition is good for all of us :yesnod:

Yup...it's already caused AT&T to bring back the unlimited data plan...for now.

$212 for that particular device is stupid when you can get more on ebay relatively quick.

I will no longer enter a contract with AT&Crap or Sprint should I switch to them, but I will sell this iPhone when the time is up and purchase a new one out right. The difference would be about the same as what I'd have to pay up front for a phone with a contract anyway.

Somehow, I don't think the AT&Crap 4G service will be any better than the #G service they claim is so damn great.

I'm finding that out as well. Just bought a new HTC HD2 - instead of getting one for less - but "with contract".

Will be selling my previous TouchPro2 on eBay.

Yep, I'll be sticking with ATT. Coverage is good in Charlotte, 3G is fast enough for me, and I like the ability to surf and talk at certain key times (phone sex while looking at porn :o_o:). It would be good, I agree, if Apple would open to more carriers, though--a little competition would be good in maybe getting better monthly rates.
