I can't remember the name of the famous Chinese Restaurant from some 30 years ago, but it was near/on the top of one of the famous hills, REALLY steep, and after lunch there one day we stepped out to the sidewalk out front and to the right, going down hill, I stood there and looked straight into an office window with a secretary typing away at her desk.....
as I look closer, she was maybe a block away horizontally, but she was on the TENTH FLOOR!!!!
put that hill at a 12-12 pitch about 45*......
YO!!!!!!:hurray::lol:
it was a tough stumbling walk down that sidewalk for some blocks to the highway......get under the SF side of the Bridge, walk around and enjoy....
the ex and I stayed in Oakland, safe area, rode the BART into SF, got off, and walked to the base of the Bridge, all along the shore/shipping facilities....
I have a bronze ~18" ships' wheel from there, walnut grips....fishing boat....
goes to my son, to be repatriated to Ca. some day.....

Nice pictures. Looks like you saw a lot in just a few days. Were you there for the fireworks? I hear they weren't as obscured by the fog as much as they usually are.
I agree LA is far better for girl watching. The weather in SF requires them to wear too many clothes.

Yeah, we did the Bay Tour on the boat for the fireworks, It was great! Some Fog, but not enough to obscure the show. Kind of cool when some of the Mortars went into the clouds and bursted, looked like lightning. My wife was born on July 4th, so it was a nice thing for her on her birthday :seasix:
I can't judge the entire Bay Area by a single stay in San Francisco proper, but I do prefer SOCAL, just for the car culture alone. Then again, I have lived in the LA area for almost 20 years, so I am just used to it. This is home.
We did check out that Irish Bar you mentioned and had breakfast there. Thank You for the tip, it was reasonably priced as well...Which is nice, because it's pricey there in the tourist areas. Found a great Pakistani/Indian joint on O'Farrell that came on recommendation from the Locals, great food and no corkage fee.
Walked into the Tenderloin at night, NOT A GOOD IDEA. :D
Lots of weed smoking EVERYWHERE. That and a faint smell of urine and poo from all the homeless people.

Didn't spend too much time in the Castro District.
Gay folks I saw there were pretty mellow and not flamboyant really. Some LOUD MOUTHED Pro Abortion protesters PISSED ME OFF in Union Square on their loud speakers, it was so loud it actually hurt my ears. I'm not kidding.

It is a walking city, but some of those hills, DAMN. We walked from Union Square through Chinatown to the Embarcadero, and then onto fisherman's warf. Up Powell and then onto Jackson Street (I think), but that was devoid of many hills so it wasn't too bad. :seasix:

Glad you enjoyed Lefty O'Douls. Did you notice the legs on the barstools there are baseball bats?
You are right about the car culture there. SF is not a car town, it's a public transportation town. Silicon Valley to the south has a great car culture. That's where I grew up. I would never live in SF, it's just too crowded, but I like to visit there a few times a year for the nightlife and great food. Not much of that where I live, which is 100 miles north.

I didn't notice the baseball bats, we took a booth. I'll look for that the next time I am there! We went to that bar in Fisherman's Wharf that is the birthplace of the Irish Coffee, pretty cool as well. :seasix:

I was there several times before I noticed it, and I was sitting on the stools.
The place has a baseball theme because it is named after and used to belong to Lefty O'Doul, who played for the SF Seals of the Pacific Coast league before MLB came to the west coast. The story goes that after every game everybody was coming to his house for a post game party, so he decided he might as well open a bar/restaurant and make some money from the parties.
I could spend the rest of my life exploring the neighborhood bars in that city.

My prior employer sent me there for a couple of days about 15 yrs. ago. Our sales office secretary was from the LA area. She said someone told her to move there to find a man...and she was drop dead gorgeous. I never understood it. They put me up in a Japanese type hotel in Japan Town. It was nice, and a complete change of culture to experience. I didn't have much free time, but walked to Wharf, and to some street with all the hookers on it. Those hills will kill you walking them.
Did the sea lions ever return to F. Wharf?

Actually I did not drink much at all before I came here to the islands.
It was very rare for me to drink, maybe a few times a year tops, so pretty much had a pristine liver when I got here.
When I moved to Cebu and lived in the city for about 3 years, I might have drank once or twice a month with my wife's father and uncles.
But after coming to the island it did start to escalate fast...
Not to ruin my rep here, but I really do not drink as much as I let on.
On the average lately... maybe 2, or sometimes 3 times a week, but when I do drink... I go in hard and stupid, and often party till I pass out, so not good.
