Pink Floyd To Release First New Album in 20 Years This Fall

Rolling Stone

Pink Floyd is about to return with their first album in 20 years. Polly Samson, the wife of singer-guitarist David Gilmour, surprised fans on Saturday when she casually announced over Twitter that the band has a new record in the works and it's coming out this fall. A representative for David Gilmour confirmed the release of the album to Rolling Stone.

"Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called 'The Endless River,'" Samson wrote. "Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful." (Keyboardist and founding member Wright died of cancer in 2008 at the age of 65.)

The band had just celebrated the 20th anniversary of 1994's The Division Bell with an extravagant reissue of the album on July 1st. The new material appears to be connected to unreleased recordings made during the Division Bell sessions.

Durga McBroom-Hudson, a singer who toured with Pink Floyd in the 1980s and 1990s and is apparently involved in the new project, offered more details on The Endless River through her Facebook page. "The recording did start during The Division Bell sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled 'The Big Spliff' that Nick Mason spoke about)," she explained. "Which is why there are Richard Wright tracks on it. But David and Nick have gone in and done a lot more since then. It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them. That's the song you see being worked on in the photo." She went on to emphasize that the new album will consist entirely of unreleased songs.

I liked Division Bell, so I'll probably pick this one up, too.

There is a super high density or something copy of one of their albums - DSOTM or The Wall? It was released in the early '80s that resells for $2000 on ebay. With good audio equip. You are supposed to be able to hear things you would not hear on the mass released album. Nothing weird - just more tonal range, etc...

For $2k you could almost get yourself a MoFi disc and a good 2 channel setup (speakers and amp) that would yield similar results.

My buddy has an unopened MoFi copy of The Wall that was going for $500 last time I checked.

That may be the same thing I was trying to describe. I didn't know the proper terminology.

I went into a foreclosed house today. The owner had three days to clear out their stuff. A new owner has taken possession. He gave me permission to go in and be a picker.

I took these at the last moment. Not my ad, but I was shocked when I googled the model number and found I have the same in excellent condition.

Also, scored a a few other things. He will just bring in a dumpster and trash out everything in there. He doesn't care about old stuff at all.

Just took a quick look at ebay, prices for the MFSL version of The Wall are all over the place...$150-700. Obviously new/sealed brings top dollar.

I have this set too, though mine have seen plenty of use.

The Wall, DSOM, Meddle, and Atom Heart Mother were available on Ultradisc.

Pink Floyd. Humm. How best to describe what I think about PF? Flashes of brilliance, surrounded by meh.

Will I buy this? Not unless it contains a Comfortably Numb.

Saw them live in KC on their Division Bell tour. Great laser show and their stage turned into a UFO like thing at one point, was really cool. One of the top five concerts I've seen.

I saw them in Atl., early '80s? D. Gilmour and I guess a band he had put together, but touring as PF. They floated a giant pig over the audience. Sometime after/near Brick in the Wall.
