I was at a little Bar/Restaurant in town tonight in Santa Fe with my wife, her sis, and a few friends having Pizza and listening to a local reggae band.

They really sounded really good! and the one guy that was the lead singer moves and sounds so much like Bob Marley that he has had to spend hours practicing while watching Youtube videos. :yesnod:

After awhile I noticed a guy that came in and was quietly sitting at the bar wearing a long tall hat, that kinda reminded me of the Cat in the Hat!

Although I had never heard of him (and I bet he never heard of me either) I found out he was Budoy, a well known artist and performer from Cebu City who is often on TV and was on one of the Philippine TV shows for awhile.

Hi demeanor was very laid back and quiet, he did not come there to perform, he is just in town, knows the bar owners and relaxing having a drink.

Down to earth and would talk to anyone, and a lot of people wanted to get their photos taken with him, he didn't seem to mind at all.

But he was asked by quite a few to do a few songs, eventually he did, and I was really surprised, and not prepared for all the energy he has.

He was singing his own stuff from his own band Junior Kilat, and have heard a few of the songs that he did in the past, and just didn't know who did it.

One heck of a performer! :yesnod:

What did you think Rob? :island14:

The second video above he was speaking Chinese, I wonder if he just learned enough to say what he wanted for that night, or actually understands it.

There are a lot more videos on youtube, if you search Budoy Cebu, or Junior Kilat

second video was better but he is not a great singer. I will have to see if I can find some other music by him.

I was impressed with the guy as an entertainer.

Maybe he is not the best singer in the world but he certainly knows how to read his crowd and can make everyone feel right at home.

Example, the second video that you liked, he spoke mostly Chinese as was the song.

He asked me if I spoke Cebuano, and I replied gamay lang.. so spoke just enough English to make us feel comfortable that night.

I really enjoyed the whole show, but especially when he came out for a few songs.

Dude has his own style for sure, kind of a Cebuano Jamacian rapper.... :island14:

Check out some more of his videos when you have time. :seasix:

Meanwhile the band was here at the house tonight drinking Rhum with us and singing some songs..

Kinda had our own mini concert in our own back yard..

Had a blast and they will be back again I'm sure.

One more video, Budoy isn't into singing much in this one but the girls make it worth watching.. :D

Nice. He looks like he might be fun to party with. Does he have dreads under that headdress?

Maybe I have been over here too long but I enjoy this chit...

Knowing more Cebuano helps with the humor some.

Pay attention to the words in this one and you will get some of it I know... :yesnod:

Yeah, but guess the front of his head is bald now so he always covers.

I heard tonight that he jokingly said on the TV show Big Brother Pinoy, that he will take the hat off in public for a million peso.

I will get the band to come back here again when you get back here in December. :seasix:

Would be really cool if we could get Budoy to join us for the Christmas party as entertainment for the village. :yesnod:

Also Markos says he will be joining us here this year and he himself will try to raise the funds for the kids over on Hilantagaan Island.

He has been doing some relief work also, and sending quite a few kids to college from there.

That is why he has been here this week.

I have to admit a good dose of Rhum helps for some of the songs, I really do like the Budoy Ako song, (top video) and can listen to it anytime and enjoy it.

Some of the others I need to watch the video to really like it.

Watch the K Fine video above if you have not already, even if you don't like the song you have to admit he is entertaining to watch, especially live.

Definitely a Filipino spin on reggae. I also liked "Scooby doo, where are you" and "Boy, girl, tomboy, bakla"... :D:seasix:

Lets just say that the way he said it, that reference was perceived as slightly derogatory to the gays in the crowd .... :Jeff '79:
