View Full Version : I feel ashamed and stupid! My confession within.

It started to rain last night so I darted outside to put the windows up in my truck. I got distracted and left the key in the ignition. This morning I was in a rush to get to work only to find a dead battery. I had a big meeting and was at risk for being late. I pulled my wife's car over to jump the battery and had everything set up. For some reason the terminals on my F150 are really small and I bumped the cables when I went to walk away. The clip came off the negative terminal and flung right over to the positive terminal and gave a nice loud pop. Oh crap! What have I done? I quick fixed them and the truck started fine. The problem was I now had no power steering and I was getting error messages about hill descent control and to service soon. Ugh! I knew this was my fault. I called ford roadside service and had them pick it up. The service dept just called to ask what happened because the 125 amp fuse was blown. My response....I dunno. I certainly didn't do anything stupid if that is what you mean. :leaving: it will be covered under warranty I guess, but I feel like a schmuck for not coming clean. I guess I better put a lot extra in the offering jar at church this weekend. I have a friend that is doing fundraising for breast cancer patients as well. I better dig deep so I don't feel so bad.

Mistake #1 - You're supposed to ground negative clamp somewhere other than the terminal, like somewhere on the motor (that isn't spinning!).

Mistake #2 - You lied. Forget about the extra offerings and just pay for the repair.

Those extra offerings won't help your conscience or karma.

Thats pretty shitty, this is why insurance and warranties cost so much...abusing the system.

yeah, i'd pay the shop for it.

on a bigger issue though, I bet that wouldnt have happened if your battery was not older than 3 years:leaving:

The truck is a 2013. I just got it in September. I told them what happened this afternoon.

Yeah, better to pay for insurance you never use to keep costs down.

I just dont think that that stuff should be used when it is user error. I mean, if you drive through a river and swamp your engine...I think that should be entirely on you. If you put on a fuel mod and it catches on fire and burns to the ground....that should be on you. If you are texting, and wreck your shit...that should be on you. Cross your terminals and blow a 125amp fuse that otherwise would never blow...that should be on you.

People use insurance and warranties as a crutch, to make up for lack of care or common sense..,much like people use rear cameras, object detection, proximity alarms, etc on new vehicles..as a crutch for their inattentive and shitty driving habits....

A/C shits the bed after 6 months...okay. Trans slips towing a small boat..okay. ABS light is on after a year..sure, tires wearing uneven despite proper pressure and driving style...absolutely.

In this case...if nothing was done, and the fuse suddenly blew, becasue the battery hold down was loose because the dealer left it loose, 100% yes...warranty time, bitches....thats what its for.

insurance? To me insurance is there as somethign to fall back on in case something unforseen occurs that cannot be paid for out of pocket. I think paying out of pocket should be the default mentality...and insurance the backup plan.
But people today rely solely on insurance, insurance gets abused..rates go up..everyone pays more.

I agree to an extent, but warranty is insurance. You pay for it. And if you don't use it, just like insurance, money wasted. Thus the whole problem.

There is no answer. Thus, Obama care.

Right, a warranty is a guarantee that a new item will be free from defects in engineering and assembly for X years or X miles, or they will fix it.

It is there as a safety net to protect you from shoddy equipment, out to a reasonable period of time or usage.

My dad used to tell me, back in his and his dads time...a new vehicle warranty was pathetic...basically after it left the lot, you owned it, and if it exploded into 5000 pieces, you owned all 5000 of them...
