I'm not sure what it's gonna be for, except for wreaking evil havoc in general, but I've already decided I want one of those electrical sparky things that goes VHHWWWWT... VHHWWWWT... VHHWWWWT... VHHWWWWT....
Anyone know where I can procure such a device?

Build a Van Der Graaf generator. Very easy. Back when I had one, there were people who would ride their horses across my back yard. One day I stood on the second-floor balcony and put my hand on the generator. When the riders saw my hair stand on end, they vamoosed. For good.

Last time I read the word vamoosed it was in a 1970's Archie Comics Digest.

What I'm looking for is one of those things that has an electrical spark that climbs up two jagged-looking wires. Usually (IIRC) the spark gets bigger as it climbs up. It makes that VHHWWWWT sound as it's actively sparkin'.
You'll need an idiot assistant.

8th or 9th grade in Jr High.....the science teacher pulled out the Vandy Genset and so cranked the handle, the plastic discs spun and the balls on levers arched over.....but me and Joe Burdette who's father taught EE at Univ/Md.....being fellow geeks got set to stand next to each other, when the teacher asked everyone to stand up in a loop around the room.....and join hands, each end of the loop holding on to the Genset so she cranked and cranked and no one felt a thing.....Joe and I were not holding hands, to complete the circuit.....so upon her building up enough of a charge, we slammed hands together and the entire class jumped almost to the ceiling.....
Swear, true story.....:rofl::rofl::cert:

That is a 'Jacobs Ladder' run by a neon sign transformer.....done many of them.....would knock out TV/radios for quite a few blocks.....

How would a burgeoning middle-aged Evil Genius build one on the cheap?
I'm thinking straightened-out wire coat hangers, lamp cord, etc.; that sort of price range.

U got it, that's what we used, nice block of DRY wood, loop the wire ends, bent near 85? degrees screwed down about a inch apart on the wood, straight as possible/reasonable.....ours were about 3' high maybe wide as 6" on top.......our sign transformers were case grounded, so that metal had to be going to green ground.....ours came from an old PACKARD dealer that folded and so we got the transformers from his sign.....
the neon, Joe put up on his ham antenna and it would light up flashing Packard every time he hit the key......
but the transformers put out some 15 KV, and so to be respected.....
to find one that much HV today maybe a hard thing to find, as neon tech has been replaced by other stuffs these daze......
as a TV tech decades ago I been bit by 30kv off some TV or other, and it's not fun, more for gashing my hand on the HV cage upon pulling back from the shock than anything else.....:issues::cert:
Been a while.....

If you've never been bitten by a CRT's flyback transformer, you've really no idea what fun is in store for you as you play around with high voltage high frequency stuff.

My next-door neighbor has a '53 Packard in incredible condition. Probably a number 3 because he does actually drive it, but damn it looks sharp from every angle.
I bet he'd pay a few bills for a sign like that. :yesnod:

Not many left thanks to guys like Gene... so I'm guessing they are worth a lot!

I did at one time later, but not stuff from those days when I should have been saving.
I rented space to a guy with lots and lots of 60's and 70's Pontiac parts (Tons) which I eventually inherited, most of the stuff that I collected myself were 73 and up Chevrolet pick up truck parts that would work on anything up to about 80.
