And on Wednesday, the New Mexico Film Office said the “Breaking Bad” spinoff and prequel “Better Call Saul” will indeed film in Albuquerque.
The show will star Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk, as he defends the best of the worst criminals in Albuquerque, before he became Walter White’s sleazebag lawyer.
“We welcome this incredible production team back to the State,” said Director Nick Maniatis. “They have proven to be excellent partners with the City of Albuquerque and the State of New Mexico.”
Saul Goodman became a “Breaking Bad” break-out character. He’s sleazy, slimy and slick at squeezing Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, as well as Walt’s wife Skyler, out of tricky situations. And, of course, he stars in the best TV commercials, where he shouts his tagline, “Better Call Saul.”
The production will employ 75 to 90 New Mexico crewmembers.
“Given the tremendous acclaim associated with Vince Gilligan’s productions, we are thrilled to learn that ‘Better Call Saul’ will be filmed in Albuquerque,” said Mayor Richard Berry. “We enthusiastically welcome back Sony and AMC and are proud to add this production to the long list of creative and original shows filmed in our city.”
The show will be produced by Vince Gilligan, the writer and creator of “Breaking Bad,” as well as Peter Gould.
