First of all, I would like to thank all of you that were able to donate to the rebuilding efforts in Baigad, Bantayan Island - so much has changed since I was there in December as far as cleanup and rebuilding efforts are going.

The people there are so grateful and appreciate everything that you guys have done. I also made sure to tell everyone that approached me to thank me that these efforts came from my friends and not me, I was just lucky enough to be here at the same time that the funds were donated.

So on to the pics....

And there are many more - but wanted to give you an idea of the process...So many new huts and all looking good. No more living under tarps and huts made from rice bags, these people have roofs over their heads and very thankful for everyones efforts.

God bless you all for this, the smiles and blessings from Baigad are all for you guys and gals that helped with this effort.

Actually - the one thing I noticed they need now is paint. That salt air is making the plywood really brittle and it is already separating some. Maybe a marine grade paint to seal it good? Not sure how much paint would be needed but that would make the huts last a little bit longer

I think things like mattresses and shoes would be better. :cert:

They all recently got new flip flops from the MARCH for Christ organization and most people sleep on a bamboo bench or on the floors of their huts. Not saying they would not like a mattress, but it is not something that you can get easily over to that island.

I will add a few more before and after photos from another camera..

Photo of the house we stayed in during the storm to get on higher ground away from the storm surge. that lost its roof while we were in it.

During the storm, after the roof took off in the wind.

The trees that you see in the background bowed in the wind didn't make it either.

We built them a shelter from a table and wood scraps to protect the women and children from flying debris and the rain.

The house after the storm.

Dino found these little guys and rescued them.. for some reason at the time it made me think of Hope.

During the eye of the storm my friend Dino digs out the chest of his children's cloths from what is left of their home.

At that time we had no idea that this was only half time, and that the worst part of the storm was yet to come about 20 minutes later.

More family's that we helped.

The first one in pink was one of the two donated by Rob's cousin, the second, and third at the bottom were built from donations from the Barn.

Also I wanted to say that the woman below who we helped put a roof back on her home passed away at 94 years old a few weeks ago.

She was my friend Tata's grandmother, Rob and I were at her funeral wake one night and Rob just being Rob, made a nice little donation to help pay for her funeral.

She was very a sweet little old woman that was always helping with the cooking, and doing dishes after the meals, she still did her laundry each day by hand as she had done her whole life.

I am sad to see her go, but feel a bit of pleasure knowing that in her final days, she did have a roof over her head, and life was beginning to get back to normal for her.

Thanks to you guys for helping to make it happen for her.

If only you could have seen the sincere look in her eyes when she held my hand, and said Thank You!

:cert:

The concrete house at the left was her home, the leaning structure at the front she is standing in front of is what she lived in till we put a roof back on her home for her.

Sitting here in my crappy, non window office, in dreary S.E. Michigan - the pictures posted make me wonder if living on an island would be a better career option. :)

I must have missed the donations thread... I'd have thrown down on that...if there's still a place to donate let me know. I'm not on the up and up.

Shocking to see homes built from plywood. Hope there are no more storms for a long time.
