Weeds in the yard...I have been putting down Scotts weed and feed for St Augustine grass as per the instruction on the bag this shit is not cheap. The weeds appear to be thriving and getting healthier. I'm done spending money on this crap next I'm saturating the ground with gasoline and lighting it I bet you the weeds will still live...

There's a reason Scott calls it weed and feed. They have weed seeds in it. You won't buy more if it really killed the weeds.

Last fall I got tired of some damn lo growing weed that gave off sperm looking little sticky crap all over my feet, so I sprayed hell outta the patch that amounted to about 1/2 the lawn, so what happened?? another brand of friggin weed took over 100% as of maybe 2 months ago, I have some more week killer but be damned if I having anything to do with grasses as none of them grow worth shit, this whole burb is over run with weeds, every damn lawn in it, bar NONE, the guy across the street swore it was his last rodeo on replacing his entire lawn, about 2 years ago, he gets the pros in to mow and trim and some Chemlawn service to weed/feed it not that it does much good but it does look better than most, still some bad areas turning brown, even after all that expense....Wife thought to get some of them pretty flowers like grow wild in the median strips here, so we planted them in the back yard, they grew rather weakly in the shade, need bright sun obviously....but one brand of them is a tough pernicious weed that is all over the front lawn now, I put them out in the tree lawn to keep from mowing it, but you know people insist it gets mowed anyway....

My son is in trouble, his fiance' wants a 30 acre farm out in Ca. up in the mountains.....with gasoline over 4 bux/gallon....right.....:issues::dance:

I wish that Scott's just sold the weed killer part and not the Turf Builder.
I don't need my lawn to be any more green or thicker, I just need to eradicate the weeds.

I think their objective is to kill the weeds by making the grass grow and crowd out the weeds with healthy grass but their speculation has fatal flaws...:D

As long as you have neighbors with weeds you will never get rid of yours every time a lawn service cuts a lawn they blow all the shit everywhere which speads the weeds...

AND in this burb, about 2/3 of the folks have lawn services....whole damn town, about 10% of the traffic is a pickup with lawn trailer in back, :issues::kick:

The only thing nice in our front yard is Linda's garden/flower work, some efforts into water feature of a simple type, etc......

I think the formulation changed. I used Scott's for years with great results. Also used a certain brand of pesticide...no problems. About three or four years ago the shit just quit working. I finally hired a guy, he got it stopped but it was too late. I lost half the back yard to chinch bugs.

I blame the EPA.

another 150 bux shot in the grASS, and that's plus all the BS chemicals....

I've grown tired of paying one guy to treat for the pests/weeds and make the grass grow...

And then pay another guy to cut it.

All the while paying for the water

New place = 1/2 acre and no grass. All natural pine straw and trees bushes that God planted.

I bought some for my sod. They told me to apply it early morn. especially if dew was on the ground. The dew will help hold it on the weeds.

We put 4 to 6 inches of beach sand all around the yard to level it out..

The salt from the sand kills about any weed you can think of, (problem solved) but the only problem is the wind blows the stuffs onto plants I kinda wanted to keep.

Not much grows in the yard anymore, Bermuda grass still does well, as well as larger trees if you crop it back some.

You're going to have to go with professional grade lawn care service. We just had our lawn sprayed last week and that dope was so strong, the dandelions and other weeds wilted overnight!

I am just letting the clover take over my entire yard. You can't get rid of it without nuking the soil. Clover chokes out all the other weeds anyway and is not bad to walk on with bare feet. Just got to watch out for the honey bees when its blooming.

Find a farm store and buy the stuff they treat pastures with. It works pretty well.

On an unrelated note, my neighbor was out killing gophers with acetylene yesterday. He was pumping it into the tunnels and then lighting it. Sounded like a shotgun blast. I think he was having fun.

Folks, I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Don't use weed and feed on your lawns!

Once you begin a program of using synthetic fertilizers, your lawn becomes dependent on these chemicals. Fertilizing with synthetic chemicals disinfects and kills most of the beneficial fungi and organisms in soil. This makes it more difficult to build naturally healthy turf which contains beneficial organisms.

You should also realize that weed ‘n feed products may kill existing weeds, but do not prevent new weeds from growing. You can prevent new weeds from germinating by applying a pre-emergent herbicide during that first warm spell in spring and in the early fall. One of the best pre-emergents is corn gluten meal, a completely natural substance that also provides the benefits of fertilizing. Corn gluten meal is an organic alternative to weed ‘n feed.

You'll get a lot better result by spot-spraying the weeds and mowing at the right height. That's the way golf courses do it. Most people mow their grass much too short. And as far as the fertilizer in the stuff causing the grass to grow better and crowd out the weeds, the nutrients are a a temporary boost only and wash away with the first rain.

Weed and feed products have been banned in Canada.

Just before Spring, when my real grass was still brown, the weeds were very green. Easy to take weed killer and blast them. I had a field of clover for a back yard and the Scott's beat it to nothing.

LAWNS!....the ultimate useless make work project.
Rock gardens with wild flowers, and paving stone walkways are the only solution. After all, what are you actually doing on the lawn....playing football, badmenten, lawn bowling, bacci ball? You sit and LOOK at it!
