first one is a shot of that old Henry Flagler RR bridge off the side of the bridge into KW....funny how they spent all that $$$ to build the causeway/bridge, and not use that old abandoned RR trestle....oh well, interesting.....

I imagine they had absolutely no idea if the footings they made for that old railroad trestle were anywhere close to "code" for a new causeway. I've been down HW 1 a number of times, and once in the middle of the night. 7-mile bridge at night, no moon and cloudy. That is eerie as hell. Feels like you are floating, driving on air or something.

She insisted on driving down AND BACK that night to Homestead Fl....2.5 hours over the highway....had she known or checked with AAA that we are members with....she would have known it's over 100 miles one way....SO she got a good scare with some guy passing a bunch of cars.....being so narrow, and SO much traffic heading south even at night....it was DAMN hard to tell IF/WHICH set of oncoming lights was in our lane, ....uh oh.....

and YES, I have a prize Mermaid....best catch of my life.....

Spotted Duck Key on the way down, but Linda made the reservations, and our gear was at the motel on the mainland, so what with 5 hours driving and some 11 hours at KW it was impossible to stop.....and except for killing him off, just how many white sandy beaches do we need to see on the trip??? so the debate the next AM was about to spend another morning/day on the keys or what??? Keep in mind, this trip was a TOTAL STONE SURPRISE for me....sprung on me at ~2pm I barely had time to post here, and then email the kids.....
