I have Ubuntu 12.10 installed on my MacBook Pro, under a VM using Oracle Virtual Box.

I don't use Ubuntu enough to recommend using that instead of Windows. I'm sure that Canonical has all the tools need to do just that though.

I'm using Linux Mint. Partitioned HD with XP on one half. Not sure about Windows 7 though.

You could go virtual like snide, or you should be able to make it dual boot.

Yea. When you install ubuntu it gives you the option to dual boot next to windows.
