Inquiring minds want to know. Who is the Top Cat?

Jasper is rather subdued today. He did slap Isabell while eating, but my reprimand sent him scurrying. I think Tank will always be top cat, for his smarts and quick reaction times, if nothing else. And he's incredibly strong, too. After the fight last night, I think Tank tried to teach Jasper a valuable lesson by keeping Jasper subdued in a corner: "Look, tough guy--Can't you see that you don't feck with me? Just how dumb are you, anyway??? Try to learn something, asshole!".
The odd thing about all my cats is that they're basically sweet kitties, at least to me. (I don't count Annie in that group--she's a damned witch and plots to kill me--but she's special in her own way.) I have 7 males and only 2 females (Annie and Isabell), so there's always going to be raging hormones. All of them have been fixed, of course.
Until Annie and then Tank came along, I couldn't have assembled a complete brain out of all of them. Like Puff (Daddy), for example. He's black, has a very short tail, always looks mangy and dirty, and won't fight with any cat. He's unlike any other cat: Huge hip bones, scratches himself standing up like a dog, eats out of a paper plate with his front paws knelt and his asshole staring at the sky. When he starts to eat his butt hole expands; you can see it growing. Yuck!
Back to Tank: I'm constantly in fear that his bravado will be his undoing. On weekdays, the only time I see him is in the morning; he's out all night, and I've seen him sizing up the Canada geese. He is completely fearless. On weekends, he stays at home because I'm here.
Sorry for the essay, but my kitties are special to me. This year there will be 40 million cats born in the wild. 20 million will be euthanized. I urge you, if you capture a feral cat, to take it to a shelter for shots, spay/neuter, and then release. You of course will need to take care of the cat until it's ready to be released (depending on its age). You don't have to keep the cat forever, but ferals under the age of 3 months make the best and healthiest pets.

Three of our five cats are rescues. I think they are much better pets and companions than the two pure breds we got from a breeder

I really think that rescue cats know how lucky they are, and they show their appreciation. When I adopted Tank, I took his future playmate, Stormy. with me to see how they interacted. When I took Tank out of his cage, the first thing he did was to give Stormy a big bear hug. After I let them play for a few mintues, I picked up Tank again. He gave me a bear hug. He knew how lucky he was to get adopted! I think he meant it, though, about hugging me.

I have said that many times...rescue cats/dogs have usually seen what it can be like out there and are so grateful for a home.

The other night TurboKittyLucy jumped on the bed with us. She usually sleeps on one of the pet beds in the floor or outside. I was laying on my side and Fletcher was in front of me. She walked up legs then my side and layed down on my ribs, just below my shoulder. I turned my head toward her and we were nose to nose. I whispered to John I think she's going to kill me or scratch my eyes out for taking her to the vet. She stayed on me for about an hour and then jumped off the bed and got on her bed. I still wonder what she was planning to do.

Amen to that! My former ferals just love to sit in my lap and be occasionally stroked by my hand on their back. They'll sit there for as long as I will. If my old body gets a cramp after a while and I have to put then down off my lap, they don't get all pissy and swishy-tailed about it, and they don't try to get back on my lap. They're like, "He gave me all he could, and I appreciate it."
Once I forgot to pick up cat food one evening. The next moring when I went to feed the hungy horde and there was no food, there were no complaints. "We've been there before. No big deal...."

Annie does something similar. We'll be cuddling in the bed gong to sleep, and she'll start licking my neck. Then she'll take my thoat in her fangs and just hold them there, just enough for me to feel a little pain. I grab her by the throat and say, "What now, kid?". She eventually releases her hold. Reluctantly, though.

Buggise will be sitting on the back of my lounger and lean down and grab a bite full of my hair in his mouth! Not sure why he likes to do that, unless its a way to get my attention.

Annie is, IMO, a bit unbalanced. I love her to death, but I don't trust her. Sometimes she will get under the covers with me a bedtime, but instead of resting on my arm, she decides to attack my arm. Not little play nips, either, but blood-drawing bites. I think her main problem is that she wants to assume the role of dominancy, and that's not gonna happen.
