I was driving down, I found a safe place to make an U-turn and Paul took few shots of The Silver Ghost. I'm

Bad news Pete - I won't be able to make it. I just learned that my daughter has a school swim meet on that Saturday, and as I told you earlier in a PM that my wife is out of town on business, so I'll be attending my daughter's swim meet and won't be able to make it.

Bummer because she wanted to go since my wife was not due to her other obligations.

My plan is to follow the weather report 10 days out. The reports are very accurate here; if it calls for rain on the weekend of the 19th, we'll could pull or push it a week. Likely to pull it because to drive on dust, gravel and dirt is just no fun.

Looks like we won't be able to make it this Saturday. I am still having issues with either fuel delivery or clogged cats. It's actually embarrassing to drive so slowly. It won't rev beyond 2,000 rpm when under load. I'm still not sure which way to go on this problem.

Not lately. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, plugs, wires,distributor cap,coil, ecm and o2sensor. The fuel filter,injectors,plugs and wires were replaced before the last Bomber Run. It ran fairly good then.
It runs good for about one mile, then it just bogs down. On my list of cheap fixes are the fuel pump regulator and the pump screen before I spend big bucks on the cats. I have just 87,000 miles on it. Would cats get clogged that soon?

NO, Mike cats lasted 250,000 miles. In my LT1 the cats have 108,000 miles and they smogged fine few months ago.

you'll need to pop a small hole in the exh pipe upstream of the catalyst to put a pressure gauge in, but on C4 that would mean using the O2 sensor bung. If you get more than 1 psi of backpressure revving in neutral, the exhaust is restricted.

you should also hang a fuel pressure gauge on the window with tape and drive it to make sure you still get 40 psi when it lays down.

Gentlemen, the weather is against us and we have to reschedule. Rain is scheduled
for this weekend and next weekend. It is going to ruin the roads with debris. Let's change
the run for April 9th.

I am now putting the plenum back on and on Monday I will take it to the muffler shop to do a pressure test on the cats. We should be able to make one of those dates.

It was a great run. Regis had a great time, I'm surprised he has not posted
yet. :thumbs: Like everything in life, we had few pimples (cyclists
and the burgundy foreigner). I had the need to keep on driving and ended up
at the Sequoia National Park. Few attractions were closed due to the
winter season but, will re-open in May 14th.

I'd like to say thank you to all for showing up. I'm looking forward next run.

Metallica still playing at Sirius 27 until next Saturday and made the trip
extremely "head bangin'"

nOObs don't start a new thread. When it's below freezing and the oil temp
is below 32 F this is how the oil temp is displayed. There is oil and oil pressure
and you dont need to run to your PC and start a new thread.

This is the best I can get this LT1. 22 MPG. Funny, a C6 Z06 with a 427 gives 25-29 MPGYeah but you have somewhat of a lead foot. :D

Thanks for the pics. Wish I would have been there, but I was able to catch up on work, and all I have left now is a nagging cough about once an hour or so.

Great Pictures of Sequoia National Park, Pete. :hurray: Really enjoyed the run. :D Had to go back and tighten some screws that came loose after that last road, and even found a couple of w/s fasteners on the floor. :rofl:

I now have a daily driver again. The thing drove like a three legged dog and got so slow I was ashamed to take it on the streets.

With the new cats it now runs like a banshee. BIG difference. Runs cooler and gas mileage is right up there. I'm ready for the next Bomber Run.

^^^ you would have probably broke down...I been in cars that were so plugged, that as soon as it got warmed up, the remaining few open honeycomb cells blocked off during heat expansion.

The tow would have been more than the repair.

Wow! Wonder what caused that build up? Curious...how many miles are on the car? What kind of gas was being used?

The car has 87,000 miles on it. It passed smog just last year with 82,000 miles. I experimented with various grades of gas and settled in with regular grade because I got the same mileage regardless of grade or brand. It took all year to slowly strangle the engine until I finally decided it had to be the cats. I can't find the cause but I am happy for the cure.

running rich and burning lots of oil will do it. If you had a misfire for several months or a bad O2 sensor that caused it to run rich, that would do it in.

I changed the O2 sensor almost right after I purchased it (along with new injectors) and the misfire was fixed soon after I discovered the cause. The plugs looked new even then. But you are right. It does not take much to mess things up.
I think, though, that the previous owner, who lived on a two mile dirt road may have caused the innards of the cats to break loose into small pieces which then clogged toward the rear of the exhaust. That road was really like a washboard. The inside pieces popped out in my hand. They are supposed to last longer than 87,000 miles, no? Anyway, it's all good now. I'm ready for the next Bomber Run. And I also get to drive it every day now.
