In a case of life almost imitating art, a Lockwood, Montana meth dealer who shares a name with Breaking Bad's meth kingpin Walter White was sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison for dealing the drug on Monday. According to the Great Falls Tribune, Walter Jack White was responsible for the distribution of 32 and a half pounds of meth; U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy, who sentenced White, called the quantity of meth "extraordinary."
White was arrested in March when investigators found four ounces of meth (about $10,000 worth), two handguns and $15,000 in cash at his residence. The police had originally arrived to investigate an incident where White's son – named Brandon, not Walt Jr. – fired a gun at the would-be Heisenberg in an argument over a drug debt in January.
"He ended up getting shot by his son," Judge Molloy said. "Thirty two and a half pounds of methamphetamine, coupled with guns and violence, is as about as serious as you can get."
Why Breaking Bad Concluded With Badfinger's Baby Blue
The elder White, who is 53 (a year older than Breaking Bad's White at the end of the series), told the judge that at one point he had tried to stop selling the drug, but his supplier, Tomas Alvarado, of Turlock, California, threatened him. Alvarado is now serving 30 years for his part of the drug ring.
Brandon White is being held on $150,000 bond and has been charged with assault with a weapon. He reportedly shot his father in January over a $10,000 debt. That investigation led to the arrests of several suspects who had been breaking into storage units; those people told investigators they were trying to raise money to pay back debts they owed to Walter White.
Better call Saul. . .
