Metal Roof

Roof is about due for new shingles and we've been looking at a metal roof. These are not the same as the tin roof you find on the old barns.

Main concern is noise and insulation. Anyone have one or knowledge of the product?

We are interested in replacing our roof with a metal roof too. I understand they have insulated panels to reduce rain noise.

Done correctly is a lifetime roof. Colors can and will fade. White and mill (silver) are best.

The junk with exposed fasteners can be done for 1/2 that. But you'd be better with shingles.

We replaced the roof on out 2600sf ranch about a year ago. Quoted $10,000 for 35 year architectural asphalt shingles... full strip, new chimney flashing and continuous roof vent. Standing seam steel roofing with quiet shield was almost exactly twice the cost. I am 55 years old, and am unlikely to live long enough to see a return on investment from that tin roof... we have new asphalt shingles.

I have slate gray on a portion of my home, and you really hear the rain in adjacent rooms. It's also very slippery when wet :kimblair:

I have one. I enjoy hearing the rain. Not too loud in my opinion. Mine is a very dark brown color.

The farmhouse I grew up in had a metal roof on the porch ( right outside my bedroom window) and a slate roof. the sound of the rain would lull you to sleep :sleep:

We have a skylight in our master bath connected to the bedroom. When it rains, you can hear the rain drumming on it. I like the sound of that. Helps me sleep
