Read all the books (addictive), and saw the movie. All very enjoyable.

Definitely worth doing both.

The movie did not suffer from having read the book first.

So if I never read the book, the movie will stay make sense and be worth watching?

I think so. it's a good movie by itself.

Misses parts of the book's story, but they don't detract from the movie. They may impact possible sequels.

If I were to read only half of the book, and watch only half of the film, do those of you who have both read the book and watched the film recommend I read the first half of the book and then watch the second half of the film, or watch the first half of the film and read the second half of the book?

I'd recommend going in about 10% chunks in order to maximize the confusion.

Haven't peeped the movie but it looks like it could definitely be Redbox fodder. I peeped "The Family" over the weekend starring Robert DeNiro, Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Pfeiffer and it was entertaining, albeit predictable.

It will make more sense than the post of yours that I quoted here.
