[GEEK] New drive detected incorrectly

Can anyone offer an idea or WAG about this unusual (at least to me) problem?

Added drive NEC ND-3550A DVD+/-RW to my sister's Compaq WinXP desktop.
But the drive is set in BIOS as TSSTcorp CDW/DVD TS-H429C with a CD driver in XP.

WinXP SP3
Motherboard A8AE-LE (Amberine-M). ASUS-built for Compaq
Phoenix AwardBIOS v3.15 as modified by HP (apparently last available)

There's a cmd function you can call up (not in System Tools IIRC), that will allow you to reclassify a harddrive that is detected.

I'll see if I can remember, but one of the IT gurus will know better I'm sure.
