View Full Version : Gotta have one of these 1911's...

Damn fine looking guns, and the 1911 style is timeless...they just kicked em up a bit with some flair.

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o194/robbob91/1911s/IMG_0627_zps9c0e2742.jpg

They run about 1100.00 in .45ACP, with 2 8rd mags, night sights, and some other stuff, plus if you buy this month they throw in a FREE 1911 in 22LR....

To me, it's like going nutty with "mods" from Ecklers on a corvette.

I just like the color combination. I've got plenty of 'black' pistols, this one is just different and yet (I think) pretty tastefully done. Don't really care for the skull on the grips, would probably change those out for something different, but the slide and frame are a nice, different color that I like.

Sig has a number of models of their P938 which is kinda 1911-ish for a small 9mm pistol, and one of the models is named Nightmare. When the P938 first came out a lot of people were having problems with them, mainly failure to feed issues. I remember one guy on the Sig forum suggesting that indeed his gun was aptly named Nightmare.

I think it's the writing on the slides that makes them look Ecklerized. As it stands it looks like a gun that someone buys to try to be cool and go show all of their buddies. Most likely "that guy" at the range. If you took that off, I think the black one would be pretty decent.

Personally, I prefer my 1911s to look like this:

...or even better yet, like this:

In all fairness, I do love this one, which was my carry (before that terrible boating accident)

My welding buddy from across the river called on Monday, wanted to go to the range to shoot his .45 auto....Taurus, I think.....

I not shot a .45 since the mid 70's traded it in not long after that little Scottish gal fired two shots outta it, and lofted the second one, having never shot a gun of any type before, her wrist was about the size of my two fingers....

At any rate, we blasted some 350 rounds through it, and the range owner came up to me and said I was a GOOD shot....it was only ~15 yards....~5" circles.....out of a clip of 8 typically 2 in the red spot....woopie doo, but it WAS FUN~~~~!!!!

I like the color, and the writing, on the other side of the slide it says "1 of 300"...

Yes its corny as all hell, but lets face it...when 300 men hold their own against some of the fiercest warriors in the world, who outnumber them 10,000 to 1....thats worth remembering. The Helmet, the Greek "MOLON LABE", and the 1 of 300 all have meaning.

Fun to look at, and still a 1911, deadly reliable and accurate. Put it on display, shoot it, carry it...doesnt matter. The 22LR (free gun) would be a better carry weapon probably.

You're preaching to the choir I think with most here.

There's no denying the meaning.

<~~~~~~~ Hell, look here.

I'm not opposed to a little bit of personalization or as you say in this case, "flair". Really the only thing I don't like is the writing on the slide itself, ESPECIALLY having "Nightmare" in big, contrasting letters on the side. It's just a personal preference, but I prefer subtlety. The grips aren't too terribly over the top on their own.

:skep:

It's essentially the same size at the .45.
The only advantages to the .22 is that it is about 20% lighter, and holds 10 rds instead of 8.

No way in hell I am using a .22 as a carry. I don't even like using the .380, but do it when clothing dictates that the .45 can't come along.

I have a 3" 1911 and a Bodyguard .380 for that.

The 3" Colt Defender pictured above... and an LCP.

The size difference between the 1911 and the little .380s that seem to just get smaller and smaller is just crazy.

Lighter, holds more ammo, less kick...and the Spartan can sit at home in a case, in a drawer for home defense while the Freebie 22LR gets nicked up and dragged around.

If you want a "Spartan", look into the Spartan line from STI...

Spartan is STI's 'affordable' 1911. Most of their stuff, while first rate, is pretty spendy.

The 1911 22LR is kinda a trainer gun, one you can shoot far less expensively assuming you can find any 22LR ammo to shoot. :island14:

STI is a good company, but the spartan is built by ARMScor, using STI fire control parts, but everything else is armscor, barrels, etc...

SIG has a good reputation, as far as I know, they are used by the namy, Marines, seals, tac-ops, NCIS, and so on...

I only have one 22lr pistol and no 22lr rifles, so the shortage doesn't really bother me much but it is annoying. I haven't seen any bricks of it in over a year, they are like unicorns or something. I've seen small boxes of it for outrageous prices, but not a brick of 550. I've kinda stopped looking for ammo, I have plenty right now for my purposes although I would like to get a few hundred more rounds for the AR-15.

I picked up a brick a couple weeks ago, and only have an old revolver and rifle with sentimental value.

If you are going to carry a .22, you might as well just put some rocks in your pocket and throw them.

I take care of them as much as anybody out there and do my best to keep them as nice as possible, but I don't mind at all when my carry guns get wear marks, nicks, etc. If it came to a situation where my life depended on it, I would certainly much rather have a gun I trust there to protect me than sitting at home looking pretty in a box because I was afraid it might get dinged up.

You are right about the manufacturing. Which is why they are $750 and the SIG is ~900-950. I read quite a few unfavorable reviews of the SIG 1911 early on as I was looking for another 1911 about a year ago. I'm sure they have it sorted out - they built their reputation on reliability.

As you mention, SIG is a favorite of many agencies and rightly so... but think you will find most if not all of those are P22x models and not 1911s.

Kudos to SIG for freshening the 1911 style. I don't personally like the "SIG shape" on the slide, but at least they put their mark on it - it doesn't look like every other 1911 out there.

Go for it, but don't carry that .22 to protect yourself.

That BOGO promotion lasted all of 2 weeks before they ran out .22LR's. I should know... I'm buying a Nightmare carry as soon as my local gun shop gets more in. I was very interested in this deal and was bummed when I found out through them it was over damn near before it started. Do a search and you'll find articles where Sig announces that due to popular demand they are terminating the sale early.

:iagree:

But a .22 is better than no gun at all. If the action starts and you return fire,
no one will be trying to figure out your caliber and although one well-placed shot from a .45 will end the argument,
a 3 or 4 shot follow-up with a .22 in a short range can work wonders-no one wants a face full of .22.s...just sayin, if
that's all you have with you.

Personally I prefer my .45 but would never carry less than .380 for first shots and save a .22 for last ditch backup..

Not quite... the helmet on the grip and the ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ is in reference to the Spartans.

When Xerxes made the offer to the 300 spartans at Thermopylae, he told them..Lay down your weapons, and you will be spared...

King Leonidas responded with MOLON LABE...which translates from Ancient Greek to "Come and Take"...which we know as "Come and get them"...
